Technology regrets: Synology NAS. Overly complicated, over-engineered and temperamental. Thought I was permanently solving a longtime problem but just swapped for new ones. #wouldntdoagain

First 10 minutes into MacOS #Tahoe. First gut feel: I try hard not to just react to the 'NEW=BAD'ness of it, but, boy, there's seems to be a lot of new visually busy-ness without an obvious benefit.

As someone who has heard 'why wouldn't you just use JavaScript to do that?' too many times to recall, I really resonated with this piece from Lee Meyer.

How to Discover a CSS Trick | CSS-Tricks
Do we invent or discover CSS tricks? Lee Meyer discusses how creative limitations, recursive thinking, and unexpected combinations lead to his most interesting ideas.

@joshwcomeau.com I found your @container query piece a great foundation. Am I wasting my time trying to use @container to make a text element where the font-size gets smaller as you add more characters (i.e. the width stays the same)? I'm pretty sure I am..

Censorship resistant data format. Seems like a sadly timely idea.
It's too easy to censor scientific data. We should decentralize scientific data somewhat.

I'm building a simple tool for censorship-resistant data archiving. It uses the same tech as Bluesky. github.com/gordonbrande...

comiCSS #11: superheroes.css

Different DC and Marvel superheroes described using CSS. Some of them are a bit of a stretch or too niched (or both), but at the time it looked like a fun approach, so I even did a second take on this idea 20 cartoons later.

i was told that my blog post on making an accessible toast notification had a typo.

so of course when i fixed that, i also ended up adjusting some of the content and adding a whole new section about popovers at the end.

One thing I enjoy about this social media chart challenge is that I can sneak in silly choices I wouldn't usually make.

Behold my gradient, lack of data point circles, and use of curvy lines!

I also don't have to spend time making it work at all the screen sizes and ratios.

@operagxofficial.bsky.social . While I'm good with the idea of not living in a self-constructed media bubble, the 'Personal Newsfeed' that OperaGX builds for me seems to have an inordinate number of Russi@n state media items. And I don't seem to be able to change that... Ideas?

Mind the gap! Great sum up of the advantages of using 'gap' with #flexbox and #cssgrid. Took me a while to break the habit of thinking in terms of margin and padding when planning layouts, but gap simplifies so many things. #CSS

Dang I'm excited about new semantic attr() capabilities in CSS!

I wrote a post about why this feature is so powerful, how it could change the way you build components, and how I would use it.

Advanced attr() is rolling out in Chrome 133 starting next week 🥰
