When I was in the Navy, one of my deployments was mainly to float off the coast of Somalia, doing circles, watching for pirates.
You know what my ship'command didn't do? Indiscriminately bomb every small boat we spotted in the water.
We scared them away when necessary. Not a round was fired.

I feel a bit sad for the sailors who have had to sail down to Venezuela because a majority of them are not there to push the button for the missiles. You can argue "complicity," but it's not like a seaman or third class petty officer can tell their officer dept head "no" and leave the ship. /1

This evening, I witnessed my first in-person experience of seeing a person preparing a needle for themselves, as I left the subway station, and that affected me in ways I never expected.
I have seen them zonked out a number of times. But this guy was fixing a needle on the stairs.

If only the US had maintained and improved train lines, there would be a slightly more viable option to air travel...
It might take a bit longer to get where you're going, but at least you could still get around.

I have to go vote today and I am always scared because idk if there will be hecklers outside or if a poll worker will have an attitude. Two things I have experienced in the past.
I didn't opt into a mail-in ballot this year because I wanted to make sure my vote was counted.
