Delighted to report that my manuscript "The Demodifier: a tool for screening modification-induced alternate peptide taxonomy in palaeoproteomics" has been recommended by PCI.

The Demodifier, an open source tool, screens for inaccurate taxonomic matches caused by PTMs www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

New review paper by @mirandaevans.bsky.social
explores how #palaeoproteomicis is revolutionizing our understanding of how ancient people cooked 🏺

Future directions include developing minimally invasive sampling methods, better authentication techniques, and understanding preservation.

3/3: In archaeology this is important because we are often trying to answer questions about which species were used by ancient people. The results show that this issue occurred 15% more frequently than currently reported.

2/3: This is an issue in #palaeoproteomics because it can make it look like there is evidence for one taxon when in fact it could actually be a completely different one.

1/3: Excited to share my new preprint, out today!
In it I share a tool I have created which screens for potentially spurious peptide taxonomies caused by post translational modifications.

The De-Modifier: a tool for screening modification-induced alternate peptide taxonomy in palaeoproteomics
In palaeoproteomic research, the accuracy of taxonomic matches is crucial, as research questions frequently hinge on which species were utilised by ancient people. However, protein modifications inclu...
