Academia:
Wave collapse is actually a physicist's metaphor for life, the infinite possibilities they once had, and the paths they could have taken - now all collapsed because they decided to take on a massive student loan to measure some funny waves in a lab.

Sure, both of these cases won't have a model of said concepts the way other humans do, but to say they will *never* develop *any* meaningful model? Even a flawed model can be correct sometimes, surely.

To say LLMs can never understand the world because it never experienced it, is like saying you can never teach a blind person to understand colour.

I witnessed the horrifying future of AI in job hiring, and I feel so sorry for all of us.

Job description? AI
Job posting? AI
Resume scoring? AI
Interview selection? AI
Interview questions? AI
Interview itself? AI
Interview scoring? AI
Hiring decision? Literally just AI

I can't even tell if it is on all YT shorts and I'm just not that perceptive against AI anymore, if I'm actually being AB tested, or if I'm completely losing my mind and imagining it all. Help?

Why does all Youtube shorts look AI generated recently? It started with the movie clipper channels, which I thought was some sort of copyright avoidance, but now so many other creators have the same look. It's terrible.

Things like Google search is terrible now, but I can already imagine a dystopian future where all search engines get replaced with AI ad bots. Confidently spewing out ad placements that sounds like genuine advices. No way to filter, no other options to choose from.

The thing I'm most concerned about with the current trends of AI, is the enshittification that will come afterwards. Companies are shunting AI into every open crack they see, what happens when all of that AI turns from sometimes useful to utterly malicious?

AI safety be like:
If you put a parrot in a box and force it to read the whole internet until it can talk like a human, how do we stop it from trying to kill us if we opened the box?

I wonder if in another 100 years from now people will think of Bad Apple like how we think of Pachelbel's Canon

Just noticed a quirk of human vision:

If you stare at a 7 segment display led while having a massager vibrate your shoulder, the numbers will appear to jiggle around (whereas print text just become kinda blurry)

Like, I get that this is in contrast to tens-of-thousands-of-dollar professional GPUs, but still.

Can't help but chuckle when reading up on AI stuff to see NVIDIA RTX 4090 referred to as "affordable consumer GPU"
June 13, 2025 at 4:24 PM
Jokes aside, I want to remind everyone of the crazy advancement in AI over what is basically a single generation.

We went from barely having affordable household electronics to cheap instant global access to a super machine that can talk in almost every language and do a bit more on top.

TIL. As a non-native speaker this whole "how are you" thing confused me since I was a kid. I would always answer with how I actually felt, but then the asker would look at me all weird!

Like what's the meaning of this strange game where they ask me a question but I always answer the same thing!?

Like Chris I also have my auto-rotate off most of the time. Mainly because it doesn't work well with various messaging apps.

TIL, thank you! That's actually very useful!

I wanna also complain about the mobile experience where if you ever go to fullscreen, it will take you three taps in different locations on very small buttons to exit fullscreen without launching into another video. Like I have to beg google "please I've had enough sir" or something to stop watching

Whoever designed the Spotify Windows app and didn't put the close button at the top-right most corner is a monster, and deserves to be haunted by the ghost of Paul Fitts.

Fun fact: AI models have a hard time reading ASCII art. So you could try to hide information from AIs with it, like some kind of 1980s hacker trope.
