How I arrived on BlueSky

Weekends can be tough for people who have chronic illness as the expectation is that they should be filled with fun/activities/housework. This is a gentle reminder to my fellow #me #chronicillness #spoonie travellers:

It’s ok to rest - it’s not self-indulgent or lazy, it’s necessary for survival 💜

Currently in an #ME flare. I was diagnosed as a teen 25 years ago and I am STILL learning to accept my diagnosis and it’s ok to rest. It’s an ongoing process as each time I reach a level of acceptance, the #ME deteriorates and the grieving/learning process starts anew.

Black and brown people drown when boats sink on an almost daily basis. We rarely hear much of it. We are now on day 3 of headline coverage of the sinking of a white billionaire’s yacht. Same with that Titanic submarine implosion last year.

What idiot called it "the plot holes in the script of Disney's The Lion King" and not "Lacuna matata"?

Same with chronic illnesses, the implication is that we’re just not trying hard enough to get better.
The chronically ill persons paradox: if you try to explain how ill you are you’re “negative” so you shut up and silence yourself which is interpreted at you’re perfectly fine 🫠

Hearing “you can beat this!” said to people with major illness always irks me

Really? We handing out homework? Meet at the ribbon walk? Extra kale?

It’s not a fight, it’s a person falling victim to an aggressor, and even our platitudes imply that for lack of fighting they are partly to blame

The last 13 years of the Tories has shown that people with disabilities are not a priority, now the removal of a disabilities minister confirms it.

People with disabilities are vulnerable to the very people that are supposed to help.

A reminder (especially at this hectic time of year) to slow down, breathe and truly live in the small things.

On #HumanRightsDay, a reminder of what’s contained in The Universal Declaration of Human Rights. I can’t believe that in 2023 in the UK we have defend it against politicians who don’t understand that taking away human rights from one group of people takes them away from ALL people.

Good morning all! Especially to those who need to take the weekend to rest and replenish but have that nagging voice that tells them they must be “productive” this weekend by “doing” things. This is a friendly reminder that simply being and resting is necessary and important.

A veteran cabinet minister once observed to me that in govt you do many things but in public memory you will only ever be *about* one or two, max. Sunak has chosen to be *about* small boats and Rwanda, at which he will fail. Could've chosen differently.

I wish mental health disorders were seen by everyone as the invisible disability that they are. I had someone last week tell me that I shouldn’t write about my bipolar here where I’m identifiable and I’m like … if you had an arm chopped off in your 30s do you think it would ever come up?

£240 million spent already, with tens of millions more to go, on an immoral, inhumane and unlawful policy designed specifically so this government can get one photo op with a plane taking off, and now they want to trash our entire democratic system to do so as well.

UK paid Rwanda an extra £100m for asylum deal
It means the UK has spent £240m on the scheme, despite no asylum seekers being sent to the African nation.
