It races at me like gravity,
distorts and nauseates, a wicked G-force,
snaps sinew and torques bone,
sucks my light to make its own mad energy.
I can only tremble and fear,
a confused toddler against the earth's breast,
whispering,
"It's so dark, and I've been so good."

Winter waits in the molecules
of my yard
like a custodian
with his fingers idly tapping
the handle of his broom

The sun gifts a performance piece
on the window, the white curtain,
now harshbright, now subdued.
Now a fly lights and vanishes,
a guest star you almost recognize.
When is the piece over?
It never is.
It is a breathing sunny
sunless window.
