Go back to an equal odds lottery for all teams that miss the playoffs for the top 3-4 picks.

Not really making a case for trusting his judgement, or the judgement of the people that confirmed him.

Iglesias complaining that voters think it is bad for Congressman to vote in line with what elites want is - ironic?

Reminds me of my issue with Supreme Court Justices interpreting the law and Constitution to make it very difficult to prosecute public officials for bribery. Self-serving? Very.

Meh. I think the voters interpreted the question as "voting for what is the best interests of their elite friends/benefactors instead of what is in the best interests of the people as a whole". Sounds corrupt to me.

So they now have 2 veteran SPs, correct? Curious. Not as much room for the young guys. Then again, last year I can remember wanting to send some of the young guys back down but being told they couldn't because they had nobody to call up. So maybe this makes sense. Also, tradable?

I am open to the possibility of a sport where there is no advantage for either sex, in which case their shouldn't be a men's or women's category, just open. And if there is a sport where women have an advantage, then maybe there should a a men's category. It should be data driven, IMO.
February 11, 2026 at 2:47 PM
Maybe certain women specific events like uneven bars, where height is a disadvantage. Vault would be a good comparison because both do it. I think the men would win.

Interestingly, in mixed doubles curling, some women were better shot makers. Though the men did all the sweeping.

Maybe shooting?

An average of 15k per month. 😬

I'm having no problem rooting for the American athletes in these Olympics (is this a thing?) but I recoil at the use of the word "should". I've had enough of nationalism being forced down my throat by self-described "patriots" that go on to attack the basic freedoms of America.(Not Matt, but others)

I disagree. Why include trans girls/women by default? It sounds like you are making it about the label "women's". My focus is on the biological difference that is the reason for the existence of women's sports. The focus should be there. That should be the default.
February 11, 2026 at 3:09 AM
I would be ok with an appeals process to argue a particular trans girl is not at a biological advantage akin to a boy.

But we have Women's sports to facilitate women having meaningful athletic competition. If we just had "open" basketball (for example) very few girls/women could compete.
February 11, 2026 at 1:35 AM
Two categories: Women and Open. There is no need for a Men's category. The only reason we have Women's is because of this difference. Trans women competing in Women's is generally inconsistent with the purpose of Women's sports. Let them compete in Open. No "Men's" category.

Are these mostly school age kids? So this predates RFK Jr, and maybe even COVID? Makes me think things will get worse. I wish it was the fools making these decisions that were effected. Tragically, it is innocent children.

Isn't he necessarily admitting that reduced immigration leads to reduced job growth -which implies reduced growth overall.

I agree! Which is why immigration is good for the country! He is admitting we (they) are "cutting off our nose to spite our face".

The "Epstein Class" worries about their names being in the files.

What he said in the past can't be squared with what he is saying now. He lied then or is lying now - or both.

"millions"?

So Democrats successfully stole a Presidential election when Trump was President, even in states with Republican governors, but failed to steal two Presidential elections when Democrats were President (Obama, Biden) even in states with Democratic governors? I can't believe people buy this crap.
February 10, 2026 at 3:56 PM
Trump equates criticism of him or his administration as being disloyal to the country. He really thinks he "is the state".
February 9, 2026 at 7:40 PM
Doesn't sound like they are going to come to an agreement, what with Rs labeling as "extreme" proposals favored by 60-80% of the public. If they don't agree by the 14th, ICE and BP lose billions in funding. Happy Valentine's Day!

btw, disagree on curling. Congrats to the mixed doubles team.

I can't say I miss him. You realize last year in this game he looked awful. But I wouldn't have minded Josh Allen or Lamar Jackson or Joe Burrow this year.

I do wonder if all the foreign bribes Trump has taken could later be disgorged using the Emoluments Clause. If it was unconstitutional to accept, is it unconstitutional to keep?
February 5, 2026 at 3:02 PM
Trump wants to control the Fed but failed. He wants to run elections, but will fail. Trump has a lot of power, so it is a constant, neverending struggle, with Ws and Ls. But I am seeing a Constitution that is bending but not (yet) breaking. Even the (disappointing) Senate has had a moment or two.
February 5, 2026 at 1:57 PM
Now this was dark stuff. I don't disagree with Kagan about Trump's ambitions, but I disagree with his assessment of Trump's absolute power. The Founding Fathers design is (very imperfectly) holding. Congress is a disaster, but the states, the courts, the press, and the citizens have pushed back.
