Irish examiner books, city column, other duties. Live in Cork. It begins, as it must, with our mutual friend’s predecessor.
Was an unbelievable thrill to have a byline in the @washingtonpost.com v sad to see what’s happening there now

Michael Moynihan: Council responses show they can't see the wood for the trees
Residents of Knockfree Ave in Cork are angered by council plans to cut down mature trees in their area

Today's city column @irishexaminer.bsky.social - why are Cork suburbs being named in the @news.rte.ie and @meteireann weather forecast? We need to know (with a nod to Arthur Murphy and Mailbag long ago)
#cork #fyp #citylife
www.irishexaminer.com/opinion/colu...
Michael Moynihan: Is there a coded message in the weather forecast's choice of random suburbs?
Or is there some even more subtle message being conveyed by the sequence of Cork suburbs being used? Why Mahon and then Douglas? Why Knocknaheeny and then Frankfield? Is this some kind of sublime trol...

I wrote this three years ago about this time of year and how it feels when it's changed for good. Enjoy your Christmas.

Michael Moynihan: Home is where the heart is — especially this Christmas
I had an abstract idea that Christmas existed beyond the county bounds, but how would it measure up?

As of this morning, concrete has yet to be poured on the former green area on Watercourse Road. The council still have time to do the right thing and return it grass and re-plant the four trees. Show Blackpool some love for a change!

To read this reply from CCC to @mikemoynihanex.bsky.social piece in the Examiner today, it's impossible to know that not only was the tree removed, but the area concreted over too. Essentially, an area that once had grass and 4 mature trees in recent years, is now a car park.

Cheers Frank depressing stuff
Oh FFS
When you think it can't get any worse & then you remember its Cork City Council
Those in charge must really hate city & definitely don't live anywhere near centre
The question becomes what do they vandalise next?

Today’s @irishexaminer.bsky.social city column. Concrete replacing greenery and what that means for Cork’s “task force” (quotation marks unironic”

www.irishexaminer.com/opinion/colu...
Michael Moynihan: Cork still waiting for task force while our green spaces disappear
Any reticence among our public representatives about a task force made up by the local authority is entirely justified, writes Michael Moynihan

The potential All Ireland champions for 2026 in all Gaelic codes may only come from a small number of counties, but what about 2036?
