Intro time! I'm a writer, wearing many hats – I mainly cover science and tech at the moment, but I've also written comedy and kids fiction. On the side, I accidentally amassed one of the biggest Simpsons collections in the country. Anyway, here's some of my work!

Hosted a dinner party tonight, which was surprisingly successful considering that as people were arriving we discovered the roast had been sitting in the oven for 2.5 hours without said oven being turned on

I appreciate my fiancee humouring me today, when I dragged her to the beach near where we were staying to hunt for dinosaur tracks, based on vague directions I pieced together from this article and a handwritten note we found on a sign. www.abc.net.au/news/2022-06...

Away near Apollo Bay for the weekend, sitting out here with a beer and a book and I just heard a koala grunting for the first time. Only ever heard clips before. Can't find the guy but he's out there somewhere!

My first article of the year is, of course, about dinosaurs. Or rather, how giant marine reptiles had previously unknown opportunities to EAT dinosaurs

Prehistoric Sea Monster Didn't Stick to The Oceans, Suggests Fossil Study
Mosasaurs were the apex predators of the oceans during the reign of the dinosaurs, but new research reveals dinosaurs weren't safe from them in rivers either.

2025 was pretty good to us:

- Got engaged!
- traveled southeast Asia
- moved to Ballarat, into a weird old church, no less
- started a new job as an editor at ScienceAlert

2026 is already looking like a big one...

I know everyone did theirs weeks ago, but here's my PlayStation wrap-up. Blue Prince was my absolute favourite game of the year (and probably the last few years). A mansion full of puzzles is just so unbelievably my jam. Only pipped by me obsessively aiming to 100% Crash Bandicoot 4.

My partner's family have really outdone themselves with their 11th annual gingerbread build.

Disney investing a billion dollars into OpenAI sounds like a lot, but it helps to remember that that'll last them about 9 days

Galaxy feels like it was meant to be the third Mario movie in a trilogy. Like, it should have been after a Super Mario World Movie that introduced Yoshi and Daisy and had Wario and Waluigi as the villains.

Jeff Goldblum's interjections in Jurassic World Evolution 3 are made all the more unnerving by the life-size cutout of him standing in the corner of our living room

Dangling this in front of Trump and then also giving it to Maria Corina Machado would be history's greatest feat in trolling

It's an absolute crime that I can't host a Halloween party tonight when I live in this place

Looked over my shoulder and my cat Gary is just... randomly admiring the lower shelves of the Simpsons collection. The good stuff is higher up, bud!

Maybe just because I had low expectations, but this new season of Dexter turned out to be a blast. You gotta crank that suspension of disbelief up to 11, but it's kind of stopped pretending to be prestige TV and just embracing the shlock.

Nothing pulls me out of a movie faster than realising it was filmed in Melbourne and spending the rest of it trying to figure out where. Like, just saw Together and it was all over the second I saw a damn Vline train

Couple years ago I was interviewed about my Simpsons collection, and how my partner found out about the room. Two years and an engagement later, they came back for an update:

I never realised there was so much gambling in airline tickets. I failed the first roll: I didn't pay for cancellation insurance, then had to cancel. But if I told the airline in advance that I was cancelling they'd just pocket my money and sell the seat again.

All else aside, surely editors and proofreaders are about to experience a boom
Just a reminder this list is drawn from a piece written by four researchers for MICROSOFT (data scientists, CS people, economists) who have never stepped foot in an archive/never taken an oral history/studied material culture, by their CVs.
Unlike them, I do my research, and don't talk out my ass.
