I wrote a GRAPHICS BLOG POST about how to MAKE TERRAIN out of SPLINES and SIMPLE MATH in Blender with Geometry Nodes! This technique is very powerful and easy to implement and there's lots of interesting ways to extend it.

An example demonstrating the technique. There are 10 splines shown deforming a subdivided plane into a mountain road. Another example of the technique, this time showing how it can be used to create roads. A low number of splines (not shown) deforms another tessellated plane, this time into a grassy hill with trees and a lonely road.
