I'm a molecular microbiologist, most passionate about extremophilic microorganisms. I am also engaged into scientific outreach, actively collaborating with artists to disseminate scientific knowledge through art. Fan of Pink Floyd and good movies.
Thrilled (and proud!) to see our paper published in @microbiotech.bsky.social
I thank my co-authors for their contribution. I also thank my friend Solimán López with whom I discovered the true potential of Art as a way to contribute to the microbiology literacy of our fellow citizens.
#MicroSky: In a world of climate challenges and misinformation, art + science can change how we see the world. Using extremophiles as muses, Yarzabal et al show how creativity and research inspire fresh ways of understanding our planet. Read MBT doi.org/10.1111/1751...

The Story of Free Use GFP (fuGFP)
by Nick Coleman and Mark Sommerville — It is perhaps ironic that for a story about open-source science, the tale of Free Use GFP (fuGFP) begins with a commercial collaboration. The Coleman lab was con...

Important paper on current funding models
“The substantial cost of grant writing and peer review involves significant opportunity costs, not only financial resources but also the time and effort of researchers, which could otherwise contribute to advancing science or enhancing its social impact”
Researchers spend approximately 45% of their time on administrative activities related to #grants rather than actual #research. The current #competition in research #funding has significant drawbacks; evidence-based improvements of the funding system are required: www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...
