As a Mac user I am working with Windows for today so I can show someone else how to do a particular, important, task on their machine.

It's been 10 minutes. I know it's not tuned for me - but boy is it frustrating!

So I am at a doctor's appointment and there's daytime TV on in the waiting area.

Oh please for the love of Mike, there should be an ability to just grab a remote mute the thing. Sigh. #MAFS

I feel like my institution ought to know better than to send reminders to do training on Boxing Day. #uq #academicsky

At #ACIS2024 last week I was asked if I had any photos of a former colleague for his in memoriam presentation. I have... no photos :(. This short typecasting piece was written with one draft on my typewriter and 'pinned' to the office door for our 2024 #uq graduates. #AcademicSky #Typewriting

So this is a picture of myself and my memento gift as Organising Chair of #ACIS2024 at University of Canberra.

This is the 35th Australasian Information Systems Conference. A great conference. Volunteers are important for conferences to run. #academicsky

Say what you will about the Apple ecosystem (and there's lot to say), I was pleasantly surprised when my Macbook Air went from 21% charge to 47% charge in around 15 minutes this morning when I needed to leave the house in a hurry...

I had a film crew in my office filming a promotional video for my university today. Makeup and everything. An hour and 45 minutes to prepare the room, 10 minutes to film, and about 15 minutes to take it all down again for around a total of 30 seconds of usable footage.

Hmmm.

So... Rather like the Fermi paradox, if loads of twitter users joined BlueSky, where are they?

My current office and Zoom background... So many typewriters...

I just tried an ABC "Real or AI" test of faces to choose which ones were real people or AI-generated. I got a perfect score - 6 out of 6 were wrong. Sheesh - I did not think I was face-blind.

So, I ended up writing a long email at work in response to a trivia question, and turned it into a blog entry answering the question - just how old is the 'Accounting Degree' at the University of Queensland in Brisbane.

So… Just how Old is the ‘Accounting Degree’ at the University of Queensland?
Professor Brent Ritchie, the Dean and Head of UQ Business School, posed the weekly trivia question on Friday, “In which year did UQ offer its first accounting degree/s?” The reward for answer…

So I don't want to alarm anyone but here in #Brisbane one of our #uq cafes is selling summer coffee drinks, unironically, on the day before Anzac Day. Halfway through autumn...

Oh man. It's Sunday night and I'm so tired already. Sigh.

Evaluate the above statement for its attention-seeking nature. Justify your answer.

I hate marking season.

An ongoing, foundational, and terrifyingly abysmal aspects of academic life is realising just how bad really intelligent people are at using Word.

We have had the software in its essential form for more than 30 years and very few people know how to use the most basic of features. #AcademicSky

Cycling around #Brisbane with the old Repco Superlite - been a while since I took it for a spin. Coffee was great today at #Baladi.

Unfortunately it is getting harder and harder to go places in Brisbane on my recent birthday so that I don't feel old... running out of options these days... #brisbane #hermes3000 #typewriters

The thing that I have loved the most about Brisbane weather for the past two months is that experience of getting out of the car to have that humidity hit and your glasses fog up. Immediately - as if you jumped out of an airlock. It's amazing to be legally blind when you leave the car and exhale.

I just had a paper published with my co-authors in ISACA magazine. They must have decided everyone's Italian since the first author is Italian. I can't imagine the mental gymnastics required to turn David Stockdale into Stockdalei :). Call me Miklos Axelseni from now on - much more exotic.

Preparing my 10th year (!) of teaching this intensive UQ MBA Class next week! At orientation @sammacaulay.bsky.social described me as a 'stalwart' of the program - am I that crusty-looking?

Here's the selfie I just shared with the class ;) - a fine line between building rapport and self-mockery...

At UQ BELfest, greeting all the new students...

It's an early start to the day here in sunny Brisbane. Can't believe I snagged the second last carpark at the train station - at 6:38am.

Off for a full day of training in one of the top 4 busiest weeks of the year. Hmmmm.

Tide is in here in Brisbane..

The view from my office over very purple UQ tennis courts towards the river as the setting sun steals across the landscape.

A new semester looms here at University of Queensland and I'm kind-of looking forward to getting my skates back on into the teaching room.

So I am left wondering if Blue Sky is anything like twitter back in its heyday... I used to use the XCessPit a lot but for some reason that has changed...
