Rewatch for me, but new to Diane this year. I don't know that it's going on the annual watchlist, but I sure do love its heart.
A ★★★★½ review of That Christmas (2024)
Dadgummit, Richard Curtis, you've done it again. Just when I thought I knew what the message was (and was disappointed by it), the movie went, "Psych! I'm actually about how that's NOT the message!" J...

New to everyone this year. What a cast. I wish I liked the movie more.
A ★★★ review of Oh. What. Fun. (2025)
I'm giving it an extra star just for the amazing cast. The theme of the movie is strong. Mom's are overworked and underappreciated around the holidays, so I'm all about a love letter to them and the w...

I sure love Christmas, but I'm also VERY much looking forward to getting back to routine with this week's movie queue.

Beautiful, gracious thread about the temptation to take the easy way and the benefits of resisting.
If I had been in college and generative AI could have let me turn a photo or a drawing into a Gustave Dore-style woodcut (something I really wanted to do), I would've used it in a heartbeat, and I never would have learned to define form using cross-contour lines.

Read this in a bookstore over the holiday. Figured I'd want to buy it when I was done, but sadly I did not.
Michael's review of Hansel and Gretel
3/5: King and Sendak should be a great combination and this is one of my favorite fairy tales, but this isn’t a true collaboration and it shows. Sendak of course died in 2012, so he’s not illustrati...

So far. I'm not locking anything in until next week, but I don't imagine this changing.

Merry Christmas, friends!

And remember: when Charles Dickens has a British officer refer to pirates as “cursed cock-chafers” in his classic Christmas story, “The Perils of Certain English Prisoners,” he’s not being uncharacteristically crass. A cockchafer is a kind of beetle. I looked it up!

At the beginning of the month I debated whether I was going to try to finish Dickens’s Christmas Stories in one season. Dickens made my decision by throwing in pirate stories that have nothing to do with Christmas. They’re fun, but killing the vibe.

Gonna work through it a little every year.
