Well, my author copies came this week, which means it is really real.

If you want to review it for a journal or a podcast, if you want me to talk to your class about deindustrialization or hollywood's perpetual search for lower production costs, or if you just think it's neat, please @ me!

In the century leading up to 1975, nearly 6000 freighters went down in the Great Lakes.

The Edmund Fitzgerald was the last.

The last. In 50 years, not a single commercial freighter has been lost in the Great Lakes.

Why?

It's NOAA. Of course it's NOAA.

BREAKING: We won!

Today the 3rd Circuit Court ordered the @post-gazette.com to restore our contract it illegally tore up 5 years ago. That’s our health care, PTO, right to a 40-hr. work week, short-term disability and so much more we’ve struck for 3+ years.

if it isn't primary it's gonna be some other verb
New from me in @newrepublic.com: “Primary Every Democrat.”

If the current crop cannot demonstrate they care more about democracy than enjoying three-day weekends, we should flood the zone and challenge them all.
Primary Every Democrat
It’s exhausting to watch poll-tested, donor-beholden congressional Democrats continue to be too old, too cloistered, and too bumbling to do anything as the government burns.

If the political opposition doesn’t put these ICE & CBP institutional criminals in prison, annihilate their budgets, purge the datasets and repeal their authorities, this will keep happening. And that opposition will reveal itself as a false, controlled opposition that is no less predatory on people

Exactly -- austerity for everyone, except digital IT, especially AI. At one CT university, 44% of new allocations when to AI projects and another large chunk to the new School of Healthcare. Everyone else can get crumbs.
Austerity is dead…but only for AI?!?!

virtue signalling is good actually
Performative decency is actually *so* important for this reason.

It tricks the 10% of ghouls into thinking that there are only 1% of ghouls.

And it makes the 30% of people that don't care one way or another follow the mostly decent crowd

It seems easy to misunderstand this phrase so let me be clear:

"Nuremburg trials is the moderate position" was also the reading of the situation the first time.
Nuremburg trials is the moderate position
He said that the agents would throw food at them to eat. The agents threatened to withhold food for a week and to beat him up if he didn't sign deportation papers. He said he saw others refuse and get beaten/receive no food. He signed because he was afraid.

I am not a New Yorker so it is truly none of my business but watching self-styled serious, centrist figures line up behind a serial sex pest, obstructionist legacy case who also happened to be an utter incompetent and unrepentant racist...people shouldn't forget who beclowned themselves thusly.
