I've been advised by Victoria's environment department (DEECA) that two water sources have been made available to wildlife in the Big Desert-Wyperfield conservation area.

The deployment follows a bushfire that impacted a genetically distinct population of dingoes that number less than 80.

1000s of bats are expected to die in Victoria's heatwave, as the mercury rises over 45 degrees.

But there is a glimmer of hope at 1 flying fox camp, after DEECA agreed last night to send a water-spraying truck to the Brimbank colony to help cool them.

An urgent plea has been made to Victoria's environment department (DEECA) to send water to a rare population of dingoes known as Wilkerr after their home range was destroyed by fire. They have almost been hunted to extinction & fewer than 80 survive.

When stressed & fearful, mothers will eject their joeys from their pouches. To reduce the chance of this happening, don’t approach mothers with obvious joeys/large pouches, & don’t ever let dogs chase wildlife. As the heatwave continues to scorch Australia, at least 800 threatened grey-headed flying foxes are thought to have died at Brimbank Park in Melbourne's north.
