This deal to reopen the government is fucking disgraceful.

Tens of millions will lose their healthcare. Trump will be emboldened.

This is exactly what’s wrong with Democratic Party leadership and why we need more people in Congress who will actually hold the line.

Imagine if you took the core critique of the economy for the past 200 years, one which was also reiterated and confirmed by a recent Nobel Prize Winner in Economics, and then you named it after a letter and pretended it was your idea. apple.news/ARYs9b--qQeS...
Economists agree: You’re not crazy for feeling like the rich get richer, and the poor are doing worse. Welcome to the ‘K-shaped economy’ — FORTUNE
November 7, 2025 at 9:00 AM EDT Federal Reserve chair Jerome Power says he's seen anecdotal evidence of a K-shaped economy. It all began with an anonymous Twitter handle named “Ivan the K.” The self-a...

This slide only contains one of the highlights the Canadian Arts Coalition cites, but does anyone else not feel like GREAT NEWS CELEBRATE NO NEW CUTS is something only we would do? ($6 mill over 3 years does not cover inflation on a $325M annual budget so actually it is a cut.)

Mostly just resharing this as a photo from today before it's transmutation to meme.
incredible photo that's definitely worth at least 1,000 words from Andrew Harnik of Getty

I guess another thing we can take from the federal budget is while te Carney government is not taking a slash and burn Philistine approach to the arts, arts and culture is not viewed as a meaningful nation building project the same way mining, the military, and energy is.

Fascinated by instead of dampening expectations and proposing a new narrative around success, proposing the campaign be judged by if the promises made are promises met.
Thank you, New York City. Together we made history.

Now let’s get to work.

My morning after the budget take, (other than re-considering the purchase of a luxury yacht) is the budget is good for Canadian universities, but bad for Canadian graduate students. Almost everywhere has been in a hiring freeze post-pandemic and now a huge tranche to hire international profs only.

stop listening to the consultants start running unabashed socialists.
Breaking News: Zohran Mamdani, a 34-year-old state lawmaker from Queens, will be the 111th mayor of New York. He will be the first Muslim to ever lead the city, as well as its first South Asian mayor and the youngest mayor in more than a century.

Idea for @tsnofficial.bsky.social @torontoraptor.bsky.social half time show:

Instead of analysis of a parlay; which is the worse kind of sucker's bet in terms of odds, how about a piece on the current NBA coach and player under investigation by FBI for their involvement with gambling on the NBA?

Think about everything that has happened to the US political system under Chuck Schumer's watch as top Democrat and how on earth could he still have power?
Q: It's election day in NYC. Did you vote for Mamdani or Cuomo?

Schumer: "Look, I voted, and I look forward to working with the next mayor to help NYC."

I'm far too jaded at this point to pre-celebrate Mandami, but a W would be nice for a change.

Sometimes I wonder if I use too much Stanislavsky as the basis for teaching acting and directing, but then ask myself if chemistry professors worry about talking about the periodic table too much.

If they win tonight and have a parade on Sunday, might drive the family to TO to see the parade. We've speculated at length around how Springer shirtless on a horse will work/look in this scenario.

Be gentle with your Gen X friends - we all have an emotional attachment to the Blue Jays winning the Worlds Series, due to 92/93 falling in our formative years, and very many of us are responsible for logistics involving multiple small monsters operating in the dark. Lots of moving parts.

I have been charged in a federal indictment sought by the Department of Justice.

This political prosecution is an attack on all of our First Amendment rights. I’m not backing down, and we’re going to win.

There's a new report out proclaiming the value of Arts and Culture to the Canadian economy. This is not the point of art, and critically, i'm pretty sure making the argument we can pitch in to the National project the same way as mining or agriculture is not helpful to culture policy goals.

I still think the Jays are playing pretty well given the other team has an all time all star at every position and our key players are very old, just started playing baseball professionally, or spent 10 years in the minors.
