Our new preprint reveals that 🪰's Cnn and 🪱's SPD-5 both form condensates in vitro, but assemble via divergent mechanisms in vivo. We show how phosphorylation unlocks Cnn’s autoinhibited scaffold and identify conserved features in 🚶♂️'s CDK5RAP2.

Did you know tiny algae can "skate" within Arctic sea ice? ⛸️ Our new study in @pnas.org reveals the secret life of ice diatoms: they are actively gliding to navigate the ice! This adds a new dimension to the sea ice ecosystem, revealing an active, dynamic ecological niche. @prakashlab.bsky.social

My first research project in grad school was working on understanding the self assembly dynamics of the Sayour Lab’s vaccine. Elias is genuinely one of the nicest, most enthusiastic individuals I have ever worked with. Hector (the first author) is also absolutely amazing!
Five years ago, a very close relative died of a glioblastoma brain tumor at the age of 13. Today would have been his 19th birthday. And now comes news that an mRNA vaccine is being trialed to treat this very (incurable) malady. Fingers crossed.
