Programming always has (and always will) start with a fundamental understanding of the problem. Then, one must codify it somehow. Until AI can play the full part of the engineer (not just coding) and be an integrated member of the team, AI will not replace programmers. (2/2)

People keep saying AI will become the new compiler. There is a fundamental problem with this: ideas must be communicated and codified somehow. Unless the AI is the user/stakeholder, it must be human readable. English is a far less precise language than programming languages. (1/2)

I feel like I can get through anything with this album. I'm a bit late to discover it, but holy hell. Feel like I can build a whole startup to this! #music #startup #programming

Excellent video. The obsession with tools over fundamentals has been at the heart of my misgivings about the software industry. Who cares about knowledge of DOM, layout trashing, performance, UX, and HTTP protocol when you know React? (Not bashing React, just an example).

It's not about function length, it's understandability and testability. Breaking up a cohesive function into parts due to length is detrimental to those goals. However, bigger often means more complex. TDD helps answer these questions by coalescing in our minds what the function should do. #software

Future-proof your code with simplicity, not abstraction. Easy-to-read code is easier to change. Full stop.

Over-abstraction, based on assumptions, makes changes tougher and more costly if predictions fail--and you're paying for that complexity from day one.

Science sky, introduce yourself and your work with a GIF that's kinda-sorta related!

I'm David, I study sharks, shark conservation, and public perception of sharks- including why Shark Week, which this GIF is from, is a dumpster fire of nonsense.

Truly, morally repugnant. I can't see how outlawing emergency medical care can be constitutional. This court is supremely fucked up. #voteblue
Actually really upset by oral arguments today. It seems clear that the Supreme
Court will allow states to outlaw emergency abortions. It will be a death sentence for thousands. I can’t countenance the cruelty of it.

I do think programming was better in the past. I'd rather read through lines of code that I can figure out than have to know 19 different complicated "technologies" that have me at the mercy of open-source documentation and code my team didn't write and can't control. #programming #software #tech
