Okay. I goofed up on my perspective here.
It's still good that the vendor is (supposedly) deleting documents immediately/quickly.
But the fact you are still sending the data at all, as I was told, still poses the risk of bad actors going into the deleted data and finding data not yet overwritten.

Okay. I goofed up on my perspective here.

Exactly, you're getting it. The issue is that even if everyone is doing exactly what they say they're doing there is still a rather high level of risk. Worst case intruders have persistent access and are scraping the traffic as it comes in. All it takes is lack of or broken encryption. It happens

Another thing to remember is that even if you don't "save" something it still goes into storage. That's what "temporary internet files" and stuff like that are. Every image you see on a website is downloaded to a location on your computer. You ID would also in turn be recorded automatically

It depends. Solid State Drives and traditional platters are handled differently and there are multiple ways the data can be exposed. Without knowing how their servers and data are structured I can't be specific. As far as in general there are plenty of resources about data recovery out there 😁

No. Because you're ruling out incompetence and you really shouldn't. Even if they have the best intentions which I already doubt, companies screw up constantly. And importantly there is no accountability mechanism if they lose your data. Good luck trying to sue and anyway the data is still exposed

So, in computers when you delete something it's not gone the computer just marks that as clear and able to be overwritten. We don't know how often they run TRIM on the SSDs or overwrite the sectors on platters depending on how their storage is set up. The data exists in that system at some point
