I care about doing research right, disability rights, 2E kids, SFF, music & much more. Biostatistician doing pediatric HIV clinical trials, previously psychiatry research. Life's too short to specialize.
The awesome Dr. Sarah Wayland, is writing another much-needed book and you can help. "The Forever Parenting Project
How can you support your adult with disabilities as you age?" Join a focus group to share your experiences and concerns.

It’s hard to believe but there was a cartoon about an immigrant mouse and it was seen as totally fine and not controversial and not woke because it was an aspirational and nice thing about America that people could come here and find a better life

Such joy seeing science nerding for SFF!
Science Bluesky, I need a question answered that is not yielding to Google!

Can you carbon-14 date an alien?

Because I know it requires nitrogen-14 in the upper atmosphere and if the alien homeworld doesn’t have the same nitrogen content…?

Moonrise over Logan tonight. Full moon is technically tonight, but it happens just 12 minutes before midnight. So tomorrow night's 99% illumination will be practically identical, just on the other side of sunset.

This was at 6:07pm - about 5 minutes before sunset and 12 minutes after the moon rose.

This was our experience last weekend trying to re-animate a printer that had been disconnected by the house painters.
History students are often disappointed when they learn why the AI take-over failed. They were defeated by human resistance, which was kept alive by libraries and old paper books, and a surprising machine ally.

Books had not been replaced, because even the mightiest AI could not make printers work.

A reminder alert popped up.

"Oh," the Supervisor said, "it's time to check in on Sol-3 again. Szrpt, can you handle that?"

Szrpt bowed a frond. "Yes, of course."

"Don't forget to reset the killer asteroid if the sapients pose no threat."

"Once!" Szrpt bristled. "I only forgot that once!"

The start of this article by astronaut Cady Coleman got me nostalgic - I'd forgotten she was only 4 classes behind me. It wasn't until my now-ex-husband was in Ride's NASA selection group that I understood "real people" could be astronauts. www.technologyreview.com/2025/06/24/1...

Build it!

Everyone should learn the joy of changing trains at Park Street. This is what peak transit system design looks like.

Seattle to San Francisco? Just go Inbound to Park St and change trains to go Outbound to San Francisco! Nothing could be simpler!
