Although no one will see it due to the holiday weekend and *waves hands at the awfulness*, I was glad to be cited in this recent Chronicle article on why the increase in earning college credit in HS doesn't seem to translate into improved college readiness. (1/8)

Why the Boundary Between High School and College Is Crumbling
Pushing students to and through higher ed seemed like a good idea, but it’s had an effect on how they learn.

Glad for this letter. Would really like to know why my senators and rep didn't sign. For heaven's sake, @bennet.senate.gov, you were a school superintendent! You should be fighting harder.
We applaud Congress for calling on the Education Department to protect the essential work of the Institute of Education Sciences. Dismantling data collection, analysis, and reporting would undercut the nation's efforts to ensure quality education. docs.publicnow.com/viewDoc?file...

Since Governor Polis isn't on here, tagging @kylec.bsky.social to see if we can get someone to ask him about doing this in CO.

Coloradans! Let's thank our Senator @bennet.senate.gov for his forceful questioning of Kennedy just now. And encourage him and his colleagues to do more of this. No more playing nice with crackpots and folks who won't follow the law.

Dear fellow scientists, Go talk to the press about what is going on. Talk to local news about how it will impact jobs. Be specific, but don't pity yourself. Instead focus on how your own situation affects local jobs, the national economy, beating the growing scientific race with China. Suggestions:

Really important insights that mirror what we've found in our work at Phase Two. Coreq is better than traditional dev ed, but that doesn't mean it's a panacea. We need better implementation, and more options for students.

I have faced fascism before, in this very country. I was one of 120,000 Japanese Americans summarily rounded up and expelled from our homes at gunpoint, all for the crime of looking like the people who bombed Pearl Harbor.

I spent my childhood behind barbed wire. My parents lost everything. 1/

This. Please leave "Judeo-Christian" out of whatever it is that's currently happening.
1) The term “Judeo-Christian” first appeared in the 19th century, in the context of trying to convert Jews to Christianity.

2) It’s Islamaphobic

3) most Jewish advances (Talmud, law, etc) developed under not-Christian rule, that’s usually sucked for us

4) the Crusaders mass-murdered Jews. 1/x
A Washington Post review of Pete Hegseth’s writing shows he rejected steps to integrate women and transgender troops across the military, and called for a “crusade” to protect “Judeo-Christian” values.

All right, time to try this thing. I'm an applied sociologist of education, working with community colleges and broad access institutions. I do a little research, a little change management, a little advocacy--all to make sure higher ed is able to make good on its promise.
