Nearly every panel I spoke on this year ended with the same question: "What gives you hope?"

My friends, that question expired years ago. (If you need receipts, my book Saving Us is literally a 300-page answer.)

The real question is: How are you PRACTICING hope?

Because Greta is right ..

Losing my dad has tied my throat up in knots & I’m afraid of what snakes & bugs will come falling out when it comes loose. None of them are at my dad but my anger is so fierce. So hot. So fucking hot. My grief is so hot.

I want to teach seminarians for a reason & it isn’t because I hate my dad.

When I was in grad school, Soyinka was the artist-in-residence at my university. I was in rooms of fewer than twenty-five people to hear his thoughts on literature and society.

He is a genius, and only America loses by this attack on brilliance and depth to save the ego of a paper-think intellect.

1st week back in class after 3 weeks away (bereavement & break). Had @lennyaduncan.com give a great guest lecture for the students on Ifá influences on Alice Walker’s pagan-pantheist The Color Purple. It’s a gift to have generous wise & loving friends, & curious dedicated students. A balm.

Every time I get on social media it ties my stomach in knots. I’m so tired. In the wake of my father‘s death I might finally be ready to delete.

I’m catching up on Love is Blind (as all religion scholars should do) and what bakes me is how casting pits these 8-10 women against 5-7 men and then make them compete. The head games are wild.

This is really, really bad in ways we haven't even begun to consider, like the most obvious one is if you take this in conjunction with Trump's plan to reopen asylums it's the most direct path to us being put in camps that exists so far

Moreover, ICE must be destroyed

Banning trans people from owning guns is a really REALLY significant escalation and I think the scariest part about it that's not being discussed at all is that the plan is to declare that trans people are mentally ill

Moreover, ICE must be destroyed

An element of fascism is a kind of upside down where the meanest, most rapacious, and least virtuous of society are loosed to bully and abuse people who genuinely uphold civic ideals of service and sacrifice.

Public service isn’t what the system is about. It’s about conditioning the national body.

Can I ask why the younger generation likes weak jawed greasy ratty looking men as their handsome ideal? I don’t get it. Can’t grow facial hair and look like they’d lure your nine year old into a van. ??? Predator gross aesthetic?

I had to look my own file up to make basic conversation today, but to be fair, I’m in Kansas, and it was about the Border Ruffians, and I’m not from here. (“Wait, I wrote about this!” is both great and not great to an academic with a spotty memory.)

I live on Anishinaabeg Dakota land under Očhéthi Šakówin and Wahpekute sovereignty, and it feels real weird for the federal government to be tweeting “heritage” about land that belongs to those we stole from. MSP - Bdote - will never belong to the federal government.
The official DHS account is now tweeting about “your homeland’s heritage”
