What's something on your 'favorites' shelf?
gonna need a lot more than just an "ugh" today

how does bluesky feel about swearing?
Should I make a separate account where I just post a daily "ughhhhh" into the abyss? I feel like maybe it would help. lol

Question of the Day: What books, fiction or non-fiction, on books, bookstores, or libraries have you liked? #booksky

To a field of sheep, along the coast. To a small cottage filled with books and comfy chairs and a warm cup of tea

Question of the Day: If you had a hidden passage behind your bookshelves, where would it take you?

Currently in Portland, vicariously via "Juliet Takes a Breath"

Would love to hear everyone else's bookish travel locations!

Happy Hot Air Balloon Day, lovelies! 💬📚

Where are you currently traveling to through a book? 💙📚

Current read: Juliet Takes a Breath by Gabby Rivera

I'm about halfway through and definitely enjoying it. It's like if A Lesbiana's Guide to Catholic School was mixed with Honey Girl and set in early 2000's Portland, OR.

Just finished In the Lives of Puppets by TJ Klune. The characters were so memorable, I just had to sketch them!

Earnest post, but: a thing I like here is it’s okay to have moments of happiness in public without being broadly scolded, and I believe that sustaining this kind of humanity will be very important as we resist fascism.

We have to sustain each other. Making joy isn’t denial, it’s how we will survive

This is a very consultant-brain type of thinking bc swing voters aren’t “centrists” by any meaningful sense of the world. Their most salient ideological characteristics are, like, a general disinterest in “the news” and a loose and absolutely incoherent set of political beliefs
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has emerged as one of the Democratic Party’s leading voices. But some worry she will turn off the centrist voters needed to win competitive races.
AOC Isn’t Ruling Anything Out, Including the White House
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s rise to prominence worries some Democrats who say the base is taking the wrong lessons from the 2024 election.

Would love to finish up A Pirate's Life for Tea by Rebecca Thorne and The Fire Next Time by James Baldwin. I've been very slow at reading recently... So finishing anything is going to feel like a win I think

Tomorrow, a certain online mega-retailer launches a book sale, just days before Indie Bookstore Day on 4/26. This is no coincidence; Bookstore Day is one of the largest revenue drivers for indies.

Indies need our support to thrive & build community spaces for all...mega-retailers do not.

I'm gonna start putting recycled cardboard art around town, probably mostly in little free libraries :) any ideas on what to draw/write next?

I'd definitely rather read an incomplete series than a rushed ending.

I'm not a completionist & while the cliffhanger may stick in the back of my mind, at least I can imagine my own endings.

Having to actively try to forget a rushed & mediocre ending that is "canon" is much harder

As much as I love collaging with all types of materials, there's still something that feels sacrilegious whenever I use a book. Not to say I haven't done it, but I tend to stick to magazines, etc for this.

(Though I'll admit, I do own a mixed media piece that contains a whole book & I love it)

જ⁀➴ Would you ever consider making art out of books or with book pages as the canvas? I.e. illustrations, found poetry, sculpture, etc.

Depends on the genre and why I picked up the book, though generally I think that good prose can make up for a mediocre plot, whereas I think even a great plot is going to be brought down by mediocre prose.

This is what leadership looks like. I’m proud of my partner and our senior Senator, @vanhollen.senate.gov

We won’t stop until we bring Kilmar home.
I said my main goal of this trip was to meet with Kilmar. Tonight I had that chance. I have called his wife, Jennifer, to pass along his message of love. I look forward to providing a full update upon my return.

All books with strong/smart female main characters. In my childhood, the female characters were mostly loving/passive secondary characters who only rarely really contributed anything to the plot.

"THAT" mostly sounds like a DNF to me, but sometimes characters I hate can serve as an interesting mirror and/or journal prompt

For "THIS" — You better believe if my fav character gets killed off and it's a series, I will not be continuing in that series
