I don’t know if this will be the case or not, but it’s worth noting that the government is quietly changing the behaviour requirements for councillors, rolling back out a strengthened version of the standards regime that used to be in place before 2010.
Reform have become the governing party on several councils they had no representation on previously. They are going to go in, be briefed about how bleak everything is, and if their past example is anything to go by, a number of councils are going to go after the officers giving them the bad news.
The councils Reform took over won't be run by them; they'll be run by officers. That's what happened when the Greens took over in Brighton & Bristol, & it wasn't good for residents or politicians. Officers are smart & dedicated, but have no political legitimacy & tend to be blinkered by expertise.
