Khanna: You know, someone said to me, “Well, this backbencher from the House is calling for Schumer to step down.”

I said, “The point is the backbenchers need to come to the front.” Those of us in the back — we need to move to the front. And a new generation of leadership needs to emerge.”

"It may not be much comfort for those bitter about what they see as a needless surrender. But there’s at least a chance that we’ll look back at this moment as a key turning point, one that produced a Democratic Party less willing to live on its knees." — @paulwaldman.bsky.social
Cue the rebellion
The Democratic base is enraged at their party's capitulation — and that's a good thing.

Standing up to a tyrant - who is willing to impose pain as leverage to compel loyalty or acquiescence - is hard. You can convince yourself that yielding stops the pain and brings you back to "normal".

But there is no "normal". Submission emboldens the tyrant. The threat grows.

Two-thirds of California's power comes from clean energy.

For 9 in 10 days so far this year, we were 100% powered for some part of the day by clean energy.

The Golden State has become the world's fourth-largest economy because of our climate leadership, not in spite of it.

From street marches to court battles to the ballot box - we’ve challenged the power of this exceptionally unpopular president.

The lesson from each success we've had is that we need to ramp the political pressure up, always up, not back down, now more than ever.

AI’s massive energy use is giving fossil fuels a lifeline when they should be rapidly phased out in response to the climate emergency.

The people were on our side. We were building momentum to help save our democracy. We could have won - the premium increase notices were just starting.

In fact, he cut child poverty in half.
