Saint Paul, Imnížaska, meaning “white cliffs,” resides on the sacred homelands of the Dakota and Ojibwe peoples. They shape who our community is today. During Native American Heritage Month, we honor these truths through preservation, reconciliation, and shared stewardship of the land we call home.

We’re aware ICE and other federal agents are in the Twin Cities ahead of Kristi Noem’s speech today. Though we’re not aware of planned enforcement activity, I share your concerns. Reminder SPPD will not participate in immigration enforcement.

Stripping communities of federal emergency and preparedness funding to push a political agenda is unlawful and reckless. That’s why we joined Chicago and seven other cities in fighting to protect access to life-saving resources. In times of crisis, we deserve support, not threats.

We hired ONS Director Brooke Blakey for her deep public safety experience and commitment to safer outcomes. That’s exactly what she delivered. A key architect of our Community-First Public Safety strategy, her leadership made Saint Paul stronger and safer. We’re grateful for her service.
NEW EPISODE: ONS Director Blakey is stepping down. She talks improving outcomes through alternate public safety approaches.

Local leaders in Minnesota are standing up—no longer accepting excuses and inaction when it comes to addressing the epidemic of gun violence. Together, we’re advancing local ordinances that protect our residents. The safety of our children, our families, and our neighborhoods is not up for debate.

We treat every non-fatal shooting in Saint Paul with the same urgency as a homicide. We’re solving more cases, cutting crime by double digits, and producing a record-low homicide rate—proving this action-driven approach creates safer outcomes.
St. Paul solved more crimes, had drastically fewer homicides in 2025
A remarkable shift is under way in St. Paul. The city is on track for a 70 percent drop in homicides by the end of 2025. And they’re solving more than 70 percent of crimes.

Saint Paul resides on the ancestral lands of the Dakota and Ojibwe. It is known as Imníža Ska, or White Cliffs, and is part of Mni Sota Makoce—the land where the waters reflect the clouds. Recognizing Indigenous names honors their heritage, but true respect demands action. (1/2)

I am deeply concerned workers were arrested on a Saint Paul job site today by masked agents who refused to identify themselves. This secretive, fear-driven enforcement has become a hallmark of the president’s approach. It has no place in our country.
