If I have any followers in Polish SF fandom with a few minutes to spare, do you feel like pointing out to the owners of this site that the photograph they grabbed at random off the web of Professor Gregory Kenneth Egan, retired, of Monash Uni, is not me?

Loved Nosferatu and found Nicholas Hoult to have done an excellent job looking tormented all the way through.

The opening sequence of this anime was a pivotal moment in my journey towards falling in love with programming (and scifi!), probably only comparable to the excitement of receiving my first computer. I had been looking for it for ages!

Fascinating to see the self-reflection and the theory of mind shown here.
Anthropic released an interesting paper on "alignment faking." A large language model, knowing it might be trained based on its responses, will sometimes pretend to go along with harmful user requests to avoid "being modified to be more compliant in the future."

Such a great movie: time travel, altered reality, paradoxes, beautiful visuals, great acting and fantastic soundtrack. Glad to know Rudy liked it.
Somehow I never watched "12 Monkeys" before. Now I did. Terrific. Unresolved paradox at the end, the old time travel yes and no. If I go back and kill the man who ruined the world, then he doesn't ruin the world, so I don't go back to kill him, so he ruins the world, so I do go back...

I want to tell you about one of my favorite books: The Geometry of Art and Life.

Why? Because (1) it’s written by a prince (!!) and (2) it explores one of my favorite topics: the magical space where math, science, and creativity meet.

Here’s why it’s a must-read: 🧵

Cut James and Rose (the AI reporters!) some slack, okay? It’s tough out here in tech for everyone. They tried their best at a Hawaiian news station, but 2 months in, it’s back to the job market. Mispronunciations and no ad sales... even robots have rough days.
The AI Reporter That Took My Old Job Just Got Fired
A local newspaper in Hawaii experimented with AI-generated presenters to engage and boost its readership. After two months, the bots have been shelved.

Cicada work in progress. Sculpting/engineering essentially complete. At that stage where I can’t stop looking at her. A good sign. Textures next! Then…casting? 🛠️ #sciart #3dprinting #bug

I've read RECURSION and UPGRADE by Crouch and liked them both.
I found CHANGE AGENT by @daniel-suarez.com really captivating.
I really liked OBSCURA by

I'm also a huge fan of
@gregegansf.bsky.social 's hard sci-fi (eg DIASPORA, OCEANIC, now reading QUARANTINE)

"A writers immortality."

I love that way of looking at AI. Particularly if (as in the lifebox) AI could breathe new life into a static medium.
