Painter, lover of movies. I love ATP/WTA tennis and the Knicks (derogatory) and I post a lot of cat pictures and art WIPs. I love loving movies so don’t come here for criticism.

I’ve also generally just taken a few more photos I’m proud of recently - all with my cute little compact Konica 35ef

Ok I’m realizing I never posted my film stuff from Cincy 2025 on here LMAO I’ve got a serious backlog. Shot these on Cinestill 800T using a thrifted zoom lens, came out way better than I thought

Realized I only interact with 2 people on Storygraph so if anyone else exists on there, feel free to connect with me. It would be great to know other people actually use this: app.thestorygraph.com/profile/alle...

I hate crypto, I hate online gambling, I hate AI, I hate pay-later, I hate subscription models, I hate the gig economy, I hate ring cameras, I hate drones, I hate self checkout.

I don't want to come off as a luddite but capitalism's hold on tech sucks.

Took these two pictures less than two weeks apart (mostly to document the marquee changing the Thunderbolts name) but it’s crazy how different the 35mm film vs the iPhone camera looks. Same conditions, same place, but one looks like a memory and the other looks like a screenshot.

Dr Ellie Sattler: All right, I’ll go turn the power back on in the park and see what happened to Arnold. I wonder what on earth could’ve happened to him?

Also had a great time taking the Ektar 100 film for a spin. Didn’t like this one as much as I thought (it’s a bit temperamental) but there are a few I loved:

Tried out some lovely new 200 ISO Kodak Gold 🎞️ film stock on my Konica, these raws really tickled me. They feel so warm, which is nice for the turn in seasons. I’m still figuring out some of this camera’s wonky focus, but it’s been fun to work with it.

Hello Kitty Island Adventure has completely taken my brain over, I haven’t had time to do any personal art in a while but this little guy is the one I keep returning to when I have a few minutes to add stuff. Still not done, but has been fun to use different media than usual (pencils + paint)

Also this is one of my favorite photos of me ever

one of the core questions of naive government tech is "why can't we just...?" & another is "what could go wrong...?"

addressing "wcwj..." earnestly will usually give you a lot of good answers to "wcgw..." & I recommend it

hard to truly improve systems w/o understanding why they are as they are
Am not joking that I've heard in at least a few agencies the DOGE folks literally think they can do a "sprint" and just rebuild the entire codebase for these antiquated systems in a month or two.

They are so out of their depth it'd be comical if it wasn't so alarming.
SCOOP: DOGE wants to rebuild SSA's codebase in months, risking benefits and system collapse, sources tell me.

The plan is to migrate all systems off COBOL quickly which would likely require the use of generative AI.

Would love to see Cronenberg but the Coens would be super fun. If the Coens win, I hope they take the whole thing - PTA/Mel are so short, Jackson would be fun but a LOT of Middle-Earth, and FFC would be my second favorite. I don’t dread any of these though, which is nice!
Up today in March Madness, you must ask yourself - Am I a serious man? Or am I really more of a Brundlefly?

It's The Coen Brothers (1) vs David Cronenberg (2).

How dare you people fail Ridley AGAIN???
Today, we enter the Sweet Sixteen portion of the tournament!

Up first - a match between Julianne Moore hyperventilating in Magnolia (1999) and Julianne Moore hyperventilating in Hannibal (2001).

It's Paul Thomas Anderson (1) vs Ridley Scott Pt I (5).

Is there some way to cut $400 million from a university's funding that wouldn't at all affect students? Just terrible, terrible answers. We are in the midst of an full-scale assault on colleges, including non-elite ones. And Schumer is still fixated on demonizing protests that happened months ago.
Chuck Schumer is very clear that he and the Democratic Party are not going to come to the aid of higher education against Trump’s assault. He agrees with it. Quibbles on details but supports forcing universities to crack down harder against alleged antisemitism.

The American Federation of Government Employees, which represents 800,000+ federal and D.C. workers (i.e. people directly impacted by a government shutdown), is urging senators to vote no on the House GOP's CR.

In other words, AFGE is saying a government shutdown is less bad than this GOP bill.

Taking a little break from other projects to see if I can do a quick and dirty 2-3 day painting. I’m trying to follow Gurney’s process, which means doing this light acrylic wash step that I never do. I sort of like the loose look but will be finishing this, since it’s a gift for our local bakery.
