It's not often you get to tell a positive story about climate. But that’s what our new #10YearsPostParis report and #infographic let us do:

The lesson of the last decade? Policy and cooperation matter. Naysayers don't.

10 Years Post-Paris: A decade that defied predictions
Ten years on from the Paris Agreement, John compares what was expected then with what’s been achieved now — tracking progress across clean energy, policy, emissions, jobs and more.

Another billionaire either doesn't understand or particularly care about societal risk. What a surprise!!!

Why did anyone ever listen to Bill Gates on climate change in the first place?

Worried about shutdown of the Atlantic overturning circulation #AMOC? The collapse of the subpolar gyre is a likely step on the way to that and could happen a lot sooner. Not quite as bad as full AMOC shutdown, but could bring major impacts already in 10-20 years. Important study on the mechanism ⬇️!
📢 New paper out!

🌊 We discuss how well mechanisms of variability in the subpolar gyre are represented in climate models, finding that models that do this best are also the models in which abrupt shifts are found 😬.

It's a technical story, so here's a simple overview 🧵

Causal mechanisms of subpolar gyre variability in CMIP6 models
Abstract. The subpolar gyre is at risk of crossing a tipping point under future climate change associated with the collapse of deep convection. As such, tipping can have significant climate impacts; i...

Pace now is everything. Fossil fuel states and corporations, aided by populist demagogues, are pulling out all the stops to defend their profits. At the same time, climate impacts are worsening rapidly.

We have the tools to save ourselves. We need to use them, fast and furiously.
Wind and solar combined were at 1% in 2005. They will hit 20% by 2026

The renewables revolution is unfolding live, fast and furiously: It's exponential, global, and this decade. Just look at the data and do the math

Shipping has an emissions problem. The climate-denialist USA....denies it

And the US is not merely being stupid, but is determined to foist its stupidity on other nations

It's not even about defending industry - several industry groups support the proposed plan

US to retaliate against IMO members that back net zero emissions plan
The U.S. on Tuesday rejected the Net-Zero Framework proposal by the International Maritime Organization, which is aimed at reducing global greenhouse gas emissions from the international shipping sector, and threatened measures against countries that support it.

I'm currently standing on stage every day for a month at #edfringe and pretty much saying this. We have to actively end the bad stuff.

What I don't quite have the time to discuss in detail is that while long-term oil & gas are likely now unprofitable but short-term the volatility keep them going
We have to be purposeful about ending the use of fossil fuels because they’re not going to end themselves anytime soon. While wind and solar are cheaper, they are not as profitable. Therein lies the problem.
