Billions of € squandered every year in wasted produce while farmers are pressured to sell at the lowest price.

EU policy could provide incentives for more sustainable practices and food waste reduction- including through changes in the #CAP (proposal for the #MFF expected 16/07).

New #ECNO briefing out with a focus on the transition in the agrifood sector, based on updated data used in our upcoming whole-economy progress report.

Experts from @newclimate.bsky.social zoom in on #foodwaste cuts and sustainable protein as means of improving climate and livelihoods.

Details 👇
Our analysis reveals key challenges:

📌 Waste from consumers and manufacturers is rising despite existing commitments
📌 Fragmented policies and data gaps are holding back progress
📌 37M+ EU citizens struggle to afford a quality meal, while the EU wastes as much food as it imports (2/3)

Food waste goes far beyond what’s tossed in the bin. It's a sign of deeper inefficiencies in EU food systems, with major climate, social, and economic impacts.

New research from ECNO shows that food waste is a major barrier to the EU climate neutrality goals. 🧵 (1/3)

New analysis by @i4ce.bsky.social shows that climate related investments in the EU are increasing, but pace of growth is slowing down.

The transition is underway, but needs to speed up for the twin strategy of competitiveness and decarbonisation to succeed.
