Morgan McSweeney has resigned

Personal prediction: McSweeney will be gone soon, probably within weeks, and Starmer will follow him after the locals

No idea who becomes Labour leader since it can’t be Andy Burnham (who would definitely have won any contest had he been able to stand)

Labour’s selection of a Greek candidate to contest the Gorton by-election really is bringing out all the racists

Austria started World War One

Germany started World War Two (or Japan for our East Asian viewers)

Who will start World War Three?

Nigel Farage once recorded a message for £87 celebrating the IRA

I can’t believe this doesn’t get talked about more

Brave of a party polling at 17% to say it wants even fewer voters

But that’s the line Kemi’s taking and it’s the line she’s sticking to
January 29, 2026 at 11:14 PM
Compulsory voting would end political strategies designed around getting the vote out/suppressing the other side’s, it would force the young to actually engage so the old don’t just get what they want every time, and it would mean less “I’ll show them” voting

Overall a good thing

Matt Goodwin?!

Reform really are sending the dregs to parliament now - and that’s saying a lot considering who’s already among their parliamentary party

Whatever happened to “country before party” Keir?

Or even “party before job”?

Andy Burnham *has* applied to be the Labour candidate in the Denton by-election

No other candidate could win it for Labour, I think. But it does open the door to a mayoral vacancy that Labour might not win again

Labour need to be hammering Farage’s connections to Trump. I suspect his insult about UK troops will be the thing that finally flips Reform voters to not liking him
January 23, 2026 at 1:11 PM
Andy Burnham is the only candidate who could possibly win the seat for Labour. It would still be far from a sure thing with Labour doing so badly in the polls, but Burnham is still very popular here in Manchester and *could* do it. No one else has a prayer
Keir Starmer allies have told PolHome that Andy Burnham won't be allowed to stand as Labour's candidate in the by-election in a newly vacated Greater Manchester seat

Sources have suggested to Sienna Rodgers that the party NEC could draw up a list of female candidates only, or an all-BAME shortlist

Not of course a problem limited to Martin or to series with a plethora of POV characters. It’s been 13 years since the last Gentleman Bastards book, and that has - at most - 4 POV characters and is mostly confined to just 1

Not entirely sure what’s taking Lynch so long on that one
I sort of feel sorry for Martin, who talked a huge game about fantasy and other people’s world-building, but who has embarked on what is visibly a project too ambitious for anyone to actually ever finish.

George R.R. Martin has said that if he never completes Game of Thrones sequel Winds of Winter (or the book after that), there's no plan for anyone else to step in. Instead, his Song of Ice and Fire series simply "won't be finished."

These so-called "patriotic" 🇬🇧newspapers who brought you Brexit were never really patriotic at all.

They are driven by a disdain for Britain's European neighbours, and a fawning obsession with America.

They do not really want 🇬🇧 to be sovereign. They're content being a 🇺🇸vassal.

Honestly one of the things I find most offensive about Trump is that he plainly has no idea how to use a comma
The U.S Government is now threatening fellow NATO members with 10% tariffs, rising to 25% on 1st June, if we don’t hand Greenland to the mad Emperor in the White House.

I wonder if most Americans even know this is happening?

Under no circumstances should we cave to this economic warfare.
