The "socialist" label energizes a specific coalition—young people, people of color, and lower-income Democrats—but it simultaneously alienates a larger and, in most competitive elections, more decisive coalition of older voters, white voters, higher-income voters, and political independents.

I think this goes way beyond simply being unafraid of retribution, check out this substack article, it makes an excellent case that Smith has tied up Trump with a big old bow and enough rope to hang him any old time.

Jack Smith Didn’t Just Testify. He Lit a Fuse.
And now the Republican Party is standing around pretending it can’t smell the smoke.

Holy fuck! Showing ZERO fear of retribution from a vengeance-obsessed TRAITOR who attempted to overturn the 2020 presidential election, usurp the constitution, and overthrow the U.S. government, Jack Smith, with ZERO fucks left to give is what a badass American hero looks like.

Back in September of this year the Russians launched a missile into Ukraine's Cabinet of Ministers building and attempted to assassinate Ukraine's Prime Minister in her office.

Why wasn't Trump "very angry" about this?
December 30, 2025 at 8:27 PM
That's the current state of play. Trump failed as president and based upon the facts and the data President Biden was very successful. If President Biden were not mentally healthy, he would not have had such a successful term

However, Proposition 50 ended up passing by 28.8 percentage points. Moreover, even though it's an off year and not one actual human was on the ballot, there was nearly presidential election year turnout.
December 26, 2025 at 8:22 AM
Nevertheless in the beginning when Governor Gavin Newsom brought this up as an issue for voters to vote on, Proposition 50 was upside down and people thought Governor Newsom might have made an error.

California voters saw the anti-democratic authoritarian practices of the regime and how he has destroyed the economy and drove inflation and prices back up.

Neutral, nonpartisan research organizations will tell you that prior to the recent Democratic response to Republicans pushing for more gerrymandering, Republicans had engaged in gerrymandering far more than Democrats had.
December 26, 2025 at 8:20 AM
VP Harris won California by 20 percentage points. California voters like good government and voted for an independent nonpartisan redistricting commission. However, they didn't like Trump trying to rig the elections by gerrymandering.

The five Republicans in the Public Utilities Commission in Georgia had approved six rate hikes in 2 years. Two of them were up for re-election. Democrats rarely win in state government elections in Georgia but the challengers won by 20.

A Republican billionaire spent tens of millions of dollars to prevent the retention of three Democratic Pennsylvania State Supreme Court judges, but the judges each won retention by 20 percentage points.

Democrats had not held the Governor's Mansion in New Jersey for 3 consecutive terms in 60 years. Sherrill won by about 13 percentage points, helped by Trump's and Republicans' attack on an important tunnel/bridge in New Jersey.
December 26, 2025 at 8:18 AM
The polls made it look like and many people believed Ciatarelli had a real chance at winning and that we wouldn't know who won for some time. Harris only won New Jersey by 6 percentage points.
December 26, 2025 at 8:18 AM
The incumbent Democratic Governor Murphy ran against Jack Ciatarelli in the previous election and Murphy only won by 3 percentage points. Murphy was unpopular and underwater in polls.

They knew Miyares would blindly obey Trump and Jones wouldn't. So Virginia voters weren't approving of those texts. They were showing they wanted somebody who would advocate for them, not obey Trump.
December 26, 2025 at 8:18 AM
Virginia voters had seen Trump fire federal workers, engage in anti-democratic authoritarian practices and they knew they needed an attorney general who would stand up for them instead of blindly obey Trump.
December 26, 2025 at 8:17 AM
The next week Jones started to recover in the polls, but Miyares was still ahead. It was widely believed and the polls might have appeared to say Miyares was the favorite. Jones won by nearly seven percentage points, more than Youngkin and Harris.
December 26, 2025 at 8:17 AM
Yet Miyares didn't get to 50% in the polls. Spanberger among other Democrats running for office no longer would campaign with him. Spanberger would not even endorse him or tell Virginia voters to vote for him, telling them to vote their conscience.
December 26, 2025 at 8:05 AM
The polls made this appear to be competitive. Then there was a revelation of morally repugnant texts Jones, the Democratic Party's nominee for attorney general in Virginia. Jones' polling cratered. It was 2 weeks from election day.

She is the first Muslim woman elected to statewide office in the United States. While Youngkin wasn't allowed to run for re-election because Virginia law doesn't allow the governor to run for re-election, the Republican Attorney General Miyares was eligible to run for re-election and he did so.

November 4th elections

Youngkin won Virginia in 2021 by two percentage points. VP Harris won Virginia by 6 percentage points. Spanberger won Virginia by 15 percentage points. Ghazala Hashmi won the Lieutenant Governor's election by double digits.
