In the middle of my @slowwaysuk.bsky.social walk along the Manchester, Bury and Bolton #UKCanals I took a small detour to see the famous Meccano Bridge and the derelict Prestolee Locks and Aqueduct. ♥️

A @slowwaysuk.bsky.social walk along the Manchester, Bury and Bolton Canal from Bury to Radcliffe to Little Lever to Bolton. The first half was really lovely. Well restored towpath although not navigable yet.

This month marks 10 years since the death of Tom Hunter, a ScotWays life member, who came up with the original idea of the West Highland Way and was the author to the book ‘A Guide to the West Highland Way’, first published in 1979.

Last night, I got properly "doored" for the first time. A car in the road to my right paused, and the rear left passenger threw open his door without looking, right into my path. I ended up on the floor, badly winded but ok.

If you don't know what the "Dutch reach" is, NOW is the time to learn.

#WindowsOnWednesday at Bolton Station. The whole station at platform level is rather lovely in its own way.

The original Tarleton to Leyland @slowwaysuk.bsky.social route was SatNavForCars so I followed @hikinghistorian.bsky.social 's alternative and it was excellent! Full of interest and much less road walking.

Let’s be open and transparent here. Starmer needs to resign due to someone else associating with Epstein and not being mentioned in the Epstein files. Donald and Nigel have clearly been vindicated by their association with Epstein and many mentions in the Epstein files.

There was a lot of concern about HS2 knackering 0.003% of our ancient woodlands but now HS2 has been binned off and won’t go near Leeds (pffft) let’s put a dent in the real threats to our ancient woodland and mangle a bunch of invasive species with machetes and fire then probably cider.

Aqueducts are pretty amazing, but maybe don't give it too much thought if crossing the 126ft high Pontcysyllte Aqueduct! It's also 100ft long, completed in 1805. #inlandwaterways #ukcanals #acqueduct

Some #moon inspiration for #Moonday #Lundi. The River Lune at Lunecaster/ #Lancaster. The image shows the castle and the priory, seen beyond Greyhound Bridge which is now a road bridge, but was originally a rail bridge. The former railway concerned, now forms an excellent walking/ cycling track.
