Our first #HilltrackTuesday of the year comes from #ScottishHillTrack 139, Bonawe (Loch Etive) to Glen Etive.

This 22km route goes along the west shore of Loch Etive for most of its length, with excellent views across the loch to Ben Cruachan and Ben Starav (pictured here).

Happy New Year!

Our #HeritagePath of the month is Hexpethgate. This old crossing of the Border is mentioned in a state paper of 1543 (Henry VIII Domestic Series XVIII) as one of seventeen crossings of the Cheviots.

As well as erecting signposts, ScotWays has had a rich history of installing waymark discs across Scotland, to display directions.
Before our familiar round waymark discs, we used metal arrows to point the direction! In the 1990s, these evolved into the discs you still see today.

As seen from our social media posts this year, our signposting has changed a lot! More recently, before 2020, we used ‘fixed format’ signs, where we would reduce text size to fit onto a fixed-size sign (as seen in the first photo).
