The war will end when Russia stops fighting. Therefore, pressure has to be put on Russia, so that they stop believing that they will win. Why is that so hard to understand?

🇺🇦 Zelensky: The crux of the entire diplomatic situation is that it was Russia, and only Russia, that started this war, and it is Russia, and only Russia, that has been refusing to end it throughout the full-scale invasion.

Britain and Europe must stand with Ukraine and see off this Russo-American deal that merely legitmises what Putin has already done. The deal is no deal and will merely enable him to overrun Ukraine unopposed as and when he chooses. Stand with Ukraine. Stuff Trump.

If Trump really wanted to sanction Putin, he could. It would be no problem. Congress would go for any sanction he wanted. So any time Trump puts a condition on sanctions, it’s just another piece of evidence that he is protecting Putin from sanctions and helping Russia in the war.

Excellent article in Sri Lankan Mirror today by Ameen Izzadeen on the ridiculous US proscription of Francesca Albanese: “the powerful punishing those who speak for the powerless is not a sign of strength but of guilt.”

Was he surprised? He gave no indication of course that he had tried or will do something to stop Putin killing more Ukrainians. Are we surprised? These are very dark days for a Europe to whom the US remains deeply indebted. Slava Ukraini.

She’s right. I was there!
In Madrid for great Plato conference. Today visited @museodelprado.es which apparently holds just six paintings by women — four by amazing Clara Peeters, still-lifes that reflect herself in the shiny surfaces. But they are hung all crammed together and in two cases too high to see the detail. WHY?
