Did women ruin the workplace? No! Did I personally ruin my own weekend writing about the cynical fuckery that led to the New York Times asking that question? I sure did!

Huge thanks to @moiradonegan.bsky.social for lending her expertise and insight to my ranting
Women didn’t ruin the workplace. Capitalism did
When your debate centers on whether women should exist in public, you’ve already lost.

agreeing to make a terrible deal while your main opponent is quite literally being boo'd on live tv by an entire stadium of people is the kind of political instinct you'd normally only find in a 3 week old dead goldfish

I guess I was a week early with this, so I'm reupping it on this, the first day of #universitypressweek. Get to know what we're looking for for the regional trade list at @illinoispress.bsky.social!
I've spent the week having a bunch of very fun getting-to-know you meetings with prospective authors, so I thought I'd share a bit of info about what I do & what I'm looking for. To start: I'm an acquisitions editor at @illinoispress.bsky.social, in charge of what's called our "regional trade list."

Read every word & share with everyone you know. This is real life here in Chicago. Americans need to know this grotesque reality & stand with us.
Kyle Kingsbury is not a journalist. He is not an op-ed writer.

He is a computer safety researcher.

And he has written one of the most compelling, comprehensive accounts of the ongoing hell in Chicago that you could possibly imagine.

In under 1600 words.

"The video DHS posted of the raid starts with dimly lit scenes and lyrics from a cover of the Nirvana song “Smells Like Teen Spirit”: “Load up on guns, bring your friends.”

I hope Frances Bean sues the fuck out of these losers

It’s such a bad idea, when one of his crimes was calling forth an insurrection, that he’s actually forbidden from holding the office by a constitutional provision, which a unanimous Supreme Court invented a way to turn off.
To repeat: Maybe electing a life-long criminal to an office where he can pardon other criminals wasn't such a good idea.

NOTHING THEY SAY IS CREDIBLE. Ask the people on the ground.
Literally yesterday a judge repeatedly called DHS's version of other events that lead to the injunction against them using chemical weapons unreliable/not credible. To publish their claims without even basic, let alone thorough fact checking is egregious at this point.

Have now seen two stories from major local broadcast outlets in Chicago repeating a claim by DHS that shots were fired and paint cans/bricks were thrown today in Little Village, with the only "evidence" being a post from the agency on a nazi website. This is more than irresponsible.

Waukegan was terrorized yesterday by these trigger happy goons. I was in Chicsgo all day but they hit all over town, including abducting several workers from the little grocery across the street from my house.
Waukegan alderman says federal agents pulled guns on him: ‘There were four barrels pointed at me’
As soon as he felt he felt he was safe, Martinez said his first call was to Waukegan Mayor Sam Cunningham.
