How do I create a strong password and then store it ?

https://headshed.dev/missivz/command-line-passwords-with-pass/

talks about how to use a command line tool called `pass`, part of most standard Linux package repositories.

Pass can be used together with GPG to securely store credentials

I did like using Gogs, then I liked using Gitea but Forgejo is all together a step forward - #fediverse

How can I avoid using make but have something simpler ?

download `just` from its https://github.com/casey/just/releases page, extract and move `just` executable to a place in your `$PATH`

https://gist.github.com/marshyon/859cb5d125bebe845b105ca739ddee66
run `just build`

Federation in the 'fediverse', what does this mean practically and how do I do this on a mastodon instance ? - follow people. To follow someone you need to have their full fediverse address mine is

linux pass simple as it is in principle is powerful enough by its design to do complicated things. Simplicity in software is not easy to implement for it to still be flexible. Pass uses multiple key values by sections, vaults, Git and GPG keys to classify secret data

scratching an itch I wanted file encryption built in to my go apps and have liked using age to encrypt and decrypt files so why not use that and be done with it - this is an example app I put together to stop myself re-googling the same thing again and get going with go

If we are to free ourselves from the tyranny of huge corps taking our data in return for their services being ‘free’ we have to find a way to take back control of our personal digital autonomy

this is the story of me and my part in the downfall of the attention economy

just one way of managing passwords and secrets using self hosted, understood and well known tooling that is after all, a part of Linux so if your happy at the command line, you'd be happy with pass and Linux, this with GPG and git-remote-gcrypt what's not to like ?

working with a friend and former work colleague on the new OpenWRT One device and experimenting with its DHCP lease logging and a test network, such fun ! Closer now to this becoming a product idea and MVP even. We're calling it 'F-Lite' short for filter light firewall

Further trying out the OpenWRT One device and curious to see if Go will cross compile to it from Linux and of course it can but blogged about how easy it is to do - all hail Go, and thanks to its simple but powerful approach to systems programming and more

headshed.dev/missivz/open... took delivery of a new OpenWrt One over the weekend, here are my adventures thus so far. Command line is king, of course and OpenWrt does that in buckets. I've only a few reservations, apk over opk being one for now but hopefully it will settle out and become stable soon

regardless of the news that is depressing on a daily basis, it is still possible to take back a sense of wellbeing without losing our place in where things are right now. What I like to call pragmatic, defensive coding === quality and peace of mind.

wrestling with tailscale running in a docker container convincing it to talk to headscale no more thanks to a Reddit post from last year. Tailsnets offer some very interesting possibilities for new app design and approaches to how we can architect their infrastructure !

very cool video on hosting your own instance of a bluesky PDS

this is very much more efficient as compared to Mastadon for example IMO

PDS can run a a small single Gig instance and easily on a Pi even, woo hoo !
