I just completed "Gift Shop" in the Advent of Code 2025. It's a nice puzzle to fit in between emails. =)

"Secret Entrance" - Day 1 of AOC25 is down. Thankfully, I did not start work on this at midnight and just finish.

You know what I want right about now? I want a White House press corps that are as tenacious as the sharks portrayed on "The West Wing."

...when did journalists get so afraid of follow-up questions and holding powerful feet to the fire?

Anyone else starting to think seriously about running all web traffic through a VPN, signing up for multiple EU-based email accounts, and taking all my file storage away from Google and Microsoft?

Just me? ok...

Alright @tigers.bsky.social fans, you're welcome. I was at the game today, and in the middle of the 5th, we went down to obtain the neat rally towels that they were giving out - somehow we'd been missed and didn't get ours when we came in.

Alright, I'm going to the @tigers.bsky.social game tomorrow. I'm taking suggestions for food to get before or during the game. What's your favorite thing to carry in or buy while you're there?

I've got my go-to choices, but maybe it's time to mix it up.

I'm glad the Tigers have decided to make things interesting, but it's ok if they want to win the series in 4...

With everything dark in world leadership today, we have lost one of the great lights. May his replacement have a double portion of his advocacy for those who are poor, care for the world, and justice.

Has anyone done much home-built hydroponics? I'd rather not just buy a giant kit, but I wondered if anyone had documented their own experiences building their own.

Building myself lets me customize to fit the space, which is one big thing for me. How to efficiently light it is a big q right now.

Well, I did a thing. I submitted an interest form in a Parks Commission spot in local government. It's time to practice what I preach, and volunteer to help make your neighborhood (or township in this case) a safe and welcoming place for everyone.

Wish me luck.

This genuinely terrifies me. The sheer insanity of migrating systems off COBOL is obvious to anyone who has ever worked anywhere near this kind of system.

You've got to be *looking* for ways to sabotage the SSA for this to even make your list of the top 100 options.

BREAKING: DOGE is starting to put together a team to migrate the SSA's computer systems entirely off one of its oldest programming languages in a matter of months, potentially putting the integrity of the system—and the benefits on which tens of millions of Americans rely—at risk.
DOGE Plans to Rebuild SSA Codebase In Months, Risking Benefits and System Collapse
Social Security systems contain tens of millions of lines of code written in COBOL, an archaic programming language. Safely rewriting that code would take years—DOGE wants it done in months.

The thing that mystifies me is that Americans have more agreement on issues than we think. It's political affiliation that divides us - because that's where billions of dollars have been spent *trying* to divide us.

Conversations about issues are possible, just don't mention political parties.

I just completed "Mull It Over" - Day 3 - Advent of Code 2024.

Still very much behind, but I'm really enjoying it! Had to read a lot of regex documentation in python for this one.

You know what I think we're missing? Questioning God. Bible characters did it all the time, and yet we've come to cringe and shy away from doing it ourselves.

All truth is God's truth, so the pursuit of truth is godly - even if that means questioning God themselves to get at it.

You know what I love about bsky? Didn't wake up to a single hateful post about Biden this morning.

...don't any of you ruin this for me.

I think our way forward is to be *for* things. I'm for sick people getting well, hungry people being fed, and freedom for the oppressed.

Jesus warned us to understand the nature of anything by the fruit it generates (MT 12:33). Church folks, if it generates fear, greed, hatred, division and seeds of dehumanization, then the entire “tree” is bad. Its really quite simple

One thing I can recommend: **not** throwing out your back, then waking up at 4:15 to drive over 4h in the car to get to Indianapolis.

I think the 20something barista at Starbucks was looking around to find me a stylish cane to go with my old age and grey hairs.
