On this day in 1814, the incorrigible Donatien Alphonse François, Marquis de Sade, died at Charenton Asylum in Val-de-Marne, France. He was 74 years old. Regrettably, his son burnt all of his remaining unpublished manuscripts.

The Marquis de Sade, BOTD in 1740, was an omnisexual French nobleman, revolutionary politician, philosopher & writer famous for his libertine sexuality. In 1801, Napoleon Bonaparte imprisoned him without trial and sent him to the Charenton asylum where he died in 1814 at 74

On this day in 1740, Donatien Alphonse François, Marquis de Sade, was born in Paris. The son of Jean-Baptiste François, Comte de Sade, and Marie-Éléonore de Maillé de Carman, Sade would grow up to be one of the most notorious writers in literary history.
