The great Bud Cort has died at the age of 77. In 1979, he was involved in a serious car accident requiring extensive plastic surgery. His most famous role was in Hal Ashby's "Harold and Maude" (1971) playing a young man who has a romantic relationship w/ the elderly Ruth Gordon

Cuddly-macho Burt Reynolds was BOTD in 1936 & died in 2018 at 82. So horny in John Boorman's "Deliverance" (1972), one of my fave films of the 70's. He claimed to have Cherokee ancestry, although this is often seen as a self-reported identity rather than genealogically proven

Brit filmmaker Michael Apted was BOTD in 1941 & died in 2021 at 79. In 1972, he made the strange WWII film "The Triple Echo" (aka "Soldier in Skirts") in which a soldier who has deserted the army dresses as a woman to escape detection. Not quite as good as it sounds, but not bad!

OTD in 1898 & died in 1956 at 58. He moved homosexual themes from the margins 2 the centre of theatre, especially in in his play Baal featuring an amoral protagonist who exploits lovers of both genders, as he did in real life, apparently

Movie star Lana Turner was BOTD in 1921 & died in 1995 at 74. In the 50s, she began an abusive relationship w/ Johnny Stompanato, a bodyguard & enforcer 4 the Cohen crime family. In '58 he was stabbed 2 death by Turner's 14 yr old lesbian daughter, Cheryl Crane. Or was it Lana?

Argentine-Brazilian director Hector Babenco was BOTD in 1946 & died in 2016 at 70. Diagnosed w/ lymphatic cancer at 38, he fought it for the rest of his life, making 11 features. "Pixote" (1980) was his first big international hit, followed by "Kiss of the Spider Woman" (1985)

Legendary cinematographer Haskell Wexler was BOTD in 1922 & died in 2015 at 93. He was the original cinematographer of Coppola's "The Conversation" (1974) but fired shortly after production. He won Oscars for Nichols' "Whose Afraid of Virginia Woolf" & Ashby's "Bound for Glory"
