Earlier this week I spoke to London Centric about the Ringways Map and all things unbuilt London - they’ve dedicated the whole of their latest edition to the story! substack.com/home/post/p-...
Would your home have been under a motorway?
"The most astonishing and destructive thing never to happen to London," says the man who has spent twenty years researching the first true map of the unbuilt Ringways.

Researching in NHSGGC and Glasgow City Archives today which are based in the Mitchell Library in Glasgow, which quite possibly has the best collection of 1970s pattern carpets in the country. Any other libraries or archives with such amazing carpets? #AncestryHour #Genealogy #FamilyHistory

Excited to be taking part in my first #FewForgottenWomen today. The woman I’m researching was lodging not far from where my grandfather was living at the time of the 1901 census so it feels a little bit like going home.

Unusually early dinner means for once I’ve actually not missed #AncestryHour My fortnightly session in @gwsfhs.org.uk research centre in Partick this afternoon. And the joy of traffic on the way home is getting to appreciate the wonderful #GhostSigns that are popping up everywhere. How is everyone?

Katja, my no 1 research buddy when I’m working from home. She really wants to be on my lap when I’m sitting at my desk, but I eventually persuade her the chair beside me is the place to be. #CatSpam

I've known for a while I was doing well at Ulster counties ancestral bingo but also looking good now for Irish Provinces on latest Ancestry regions. Brand new for me is Hebrides & Highlands for the first time ever, which somehow makes feel like I'm a real Scot now. What's change for everyone else?

That thing where you’re looking at parish maps in an actual book of The Phillimore Atlas & Index of Parish Registers… and try to use 2 fingers to zoom in on the area of interest. Ah well, I’ll take an actual pic then to zoom in on. 🙈😂

As every family knows, life gets busy after the arrival of a newborn. Top tip from the mid 19th century - have your baby baptised before it's born! Not a straightforward transcription howler. Columns in original register not consistently used for birth or bap dates. #Genealogy #FamilyHistory

It really helps to understand a set of records if you can work out how the clerks used them went about their job. In the indexes to the Stock Ledgers held at the Bank England Archives. The surnames are arranged by:

1 initial letter
2 first consonant after the initial letter
3 first vowel

Genius!

For the second time recently, I registered twins with the exact same first name.
I advised against it and it probably will cause issues… but the parent was insistent 🤦🏻‍♀️
