www.tmz.com/2025/04/02/s... Farewell Johnny. The 1973 soundtrack to That'll Be The Day, the film, was the first LP I ever bought, with pocket money (I was 10). Poetry in Motion was on it. "A wave out on the ocean could never move that way." Superb.

Took friends to two of the @rspbminsmere.bsky.social hides yesterday. Told them chances of seeing Bitterns wasn't guaranteed. Saw three, in the open and within seconds of arriving. One bloke had been there three hours waiting to see one and we turn up and hey presto. Felt guilty* (*not too guilty.)

It's not just the wildlife that makes @rspbminsmere.bsky.social so special. It just looks wonderful.

The maternity wing of our garden has produced quads.

It's not the coolest, I know but David Essex lived behind a mate's house and, aged 9 or 10, we used to kick the ball over the fence into his garden in the hope of seeing him. And when this came out a couple of years later I was still too young to see the film but had enough pocket money for the LP.

What a refreshingly erudite and charming man that Plymouth manager is. He'll go for.

80 years ago. The man on the left is my uncle Sammy Treforest, pictured at Sam's Canteen, Belsen, set up to help feed survivors, one of whom was Edda, a Polish woman who had survived both Auschwitz and Belsen. Sammy and Edda married. Google them for videos of them telling their stories.

Emilia Perez...what a bizarre but watchable film. Like Scarface meets Mrs Doubtfire (the musical).

On a scale of Things That Are Punk <--> Things That Are Not Punk, this must come *very* close to the furthest extreme of Not Punk, the complete absence of any trace of punk at a microscopic level
Just got this advert on IG if you were interested in putting the punk back into yachting:

I've written about Mick Lynch on his retirement. Not sure it's made me more popular with Spectator readers though... www.spectator.co.uk/article/why-...
Why we should admire Mick Lynch
Rail union leader Mick Lynch has announced his retirement. No doubt there will be plenty who will breathe a sigh of relief, be it the politicians and hapless interviewers he has skewered on live telev...

Every year, around this time, we wait for a Bullfinch to turn up in the garden - sometimes one, occasionally a pair or two, and usually just for a day. Here's this year's fella. @rspbminsmere.bsky.social

I thought he'd changed his name to Matt Hampson - in which case everybody should start calling him Mat just to annoy him. But it's a charity t-shirt he just threw on that morning, and not in any way a subtle way of telling us about how much good work he does for charity, oh no. #greg

My friend Mandy writes beautifully.
"Had the law been different, my mother would have died peacefully in the home she adored, surrounded by all the people she loved and relieved that the end of her life had come. No fuss. No upheaval.

"Instead, mum had to travel 750 miles when she was in no fit state to do so" | ✍️ Mandy Appleyard
I took my mother to die at Dignitas. I wish she could have been at home
A new law on assisted dying is welcome, but it doesn’t go far enough, claims woman who faced anguish of seeing her mother suffer as she travelled to Switzerland

I'm almost 62, worked since I was 19. Recently, for the first time in my life, I had to write a CV and not just a LinkedIn bio but a proper one. Then I had to be interviewed by a panel, including one on Zoom. Needless to say I didn't get the job.

This is Solly's account. I appreciate there's probably more than one Solly, this is the one that looks a bit like Ben Elton.
