It's #BlackHistoryMonth, and on this date in 1909, the NAACP was founded. Notably, its precursor was the Niagara Movement, a significant early national civil rights association established in Buffalo and Fort Erie by prominent intellectuals in 1905, including Buffalo's own Mary Burnett Talbert.

When the Rasmussen firm releases numbers like this you know the American people have definitely turned on this administration:

-48% of US Voters believe Joe Biden did a better job as president, compared to 40% for Trump. 👇

The Act sends a signal to residents that local law enforcement will not be an arm of the federal government.
The Act also provides protections and remedies for residents whose constitutional rights are violated.
This Act is timely and very necessary. I thank Governor Hochul for proposing it. 3/3

Governor Hochul's "The Local Cops, Local Crimes Act" is a commonsense way to ensure local law enforcement personnel and resources are reserved for use in our communities, policing them according to the law and not subjected to federal overreach such as we are seeing across the country with ICE. 2/3
February 9, 2026 at 9:26 PM
Today, I was honored to join Gov. Kathy Hochul, county executives, district attorneys, sheriffs, and police chiefs to discuss the impact of ICE actions on local communities and law enforcement and how we can protect our counties and constituents. 1/3

My Minnesota colleague Angela Conley reminds everyone it's not just about what we see on the streets of Minneapolis but how people are so terrorized they won't even leave their homes for healthcare because they fear being detained, including our fellow citizens.
