Former hockey coach, frustrated golfer, political and history nerd. Just a kid from Sunny LA (Lackawanna that is) who grew up to be Erie County's Executive.
Great story about Tiffany Lewis, who won a seat on the Town of Cheektowaga Board last Tuesday, becoming the first person of color to do so in the long history of the town!

Congratulations Tiffany and best wishes to you in your new role as town board member.

Today at 3 PM, members of the Erie County Historical Commission, Buffalo Maritime Center and U.S. Lighthouse Society will hold a remembrance program on the 50th anniversary of the loss of the Edmund Fitzgerald.

While the ship was not based in Buffalo, it docked in local facilities often.

The Trump Administration has ordered states to stop making SNAP payments. During every previous shutdown, SNAP payments were always made to recipients. Always.

This president and his team have not only refused to do so, they have gone to court seeking an order to stop making payments. It's cruel.

We've worked hard to not only hold the line on taxes but reduce the county's tax rate to the lowest in modern history and lowest of all WNY counties. Our property tax levy has never gone over the state tax cap. It's all part of our commitment to run the most efficient government for you, our bosses.

A 50 year mortgage is a terrible idea because (1) you pay a ridiculous amount of interest, (2) you are basically in perpetual servitude to a lender, especially after having paid nothing but interest payments for decades, and (3) there is a good chance you will die before you pay off the debt.

While the president is focused on building his golden ballroom, we are focused on making sure you have food for your dining room.

Erie County is accepting shelf stable food donations at the locations listed below, all of which will be donated to FeedMore WNY for distribution to local food banks.

Two years ago, the people of Erie County gave me the honor of serving a historic fourth term with a mandate to continue my efforts to create the best county possible. It was the best birthday present I could have received.

I look forward to continuing our work during the remainder of this term.

Update on below post: Today, the County Legislature passed my request to provide @feedmorewny.org $1,000,000 to purchase food for area food pantries due to the federal government's halting of SNAP payments.

Thank you to the members of the legislature for supporting this important measure.
In order to help prevent people from going hungry due to the SNAP shutdown, I am seeking legislative approval of a $1 million allocation to @feedmorewny.org to purchase 354,000 pounds of food for local food pantries. 140,000 county residents rely on SNAP. We must help them in their time of need.

This past year we invested more than $6 million into our wonderful Erie County Parks. A big part of that is the ongoing renovation of Isle View Park, which includes a new inclusive playground.

It's all part of my commitment to make #YourErieCountyParks the best they can be.

It was a great night for the Democratic Party but, more importantly, for our democracy.

The people spoke by overwhelmingly rejecting Trump's self-centered agenda.

It's a reminder as a public servant you work for the people - they are your bosses - and you must never forget that fact.

Congratulations to my good friend Sean Ryan on your election as the next Mayor of Buffalo! I know he will do a great job and I look forward to working with you to create a better Buffalo.

Even more great news: the Cheektowaga Democratic candidates SWEPT every seat and have taken back the board!

Congrats to Brian Pilarski, Monica Elderkin, Tiffany Lewis and Stephen Nowicki on your big victories and this just proves the people of Cheektowaga want government that works for them.
November 5, 2025 at 3:33 AM
More big victories tonight as Shawn Lavin was elected Supervisor of Amherst, Jack Kavanaugh and John Davis were elected to the board and Jeanne Vinal was reelected as Legislator!

The GOP targeted these seats and lost every one. Huge wins all around!

Results across the board in Erie County are looking great for the Democratic candidates. Congratulations to new City of Tonawanda Mayor Bill Strassburg on his victory as we flipped that seat from red to blue and we won every seat on the City Council!
