Trump is ridiculous. On this matter, I even agree with Jason Kenney and 4 US Senators: “The Ontario ad does not misrepresent President Reagan’s anti-tariff radio address in any respect whatsoever. It is a direct replay of his radio address, formatted for a one minute ad,” Mr. Kenney said on X.
The Senate passed legislation Wednesday that would nullify U.S. tariffs on Canada, just as President Trump is engaged in trade talks in Asia as well as an increasingly bitter trade spat with U.S.’s northern neighbor that is one of its largest economic partners. https://to.pbs.org/47PkwMQ
WATCH LIVE: Senate expected to vote on whether to repeal Trump's global tariffs
The Senate is taking a series of votes this week to terminate the national emergencies that President Donald Trump has used to impose tariffs. The resolutions won't ultimately take effect.

Surreal to see this in CNN. What a wild week.

I feel so awful for everyone on this site.

I’ve dealt with this on a smaller scale before, which means I take a lot of safety precautions in my daily life.

But most of those listed are private citizens just thrown to the wolves.

I’m so worried.

The NYT runs a piece advocating a tax on the ultrawealthy in France. Well, why not in the US then? Or, indeed, everywhere.

Canada's Conservatives seem to want Mark Carney to rush into a deal — any deal — with Donald Trump. Why his strategy of "ragging the puck" might be about to pay dividends, and what will happen to his government (and our country) if it doesn't. www.nationalobserver.com/2025/08/13/o...
Canada isn’t losing the trade war — yet
Mark Carney won the April election in large part because Canadians trusted him more to deal with Donald Trump. Now, almost four months on, is their confidence being rewarded?

Trump's new story is that he fell out with Jeffrey Epstein because Trump's most valued employees preferred to go work for a notorious sex offender rather than stay with Trump.

Sean Feucht's Christian nationalism is a minority view in Alberta--a minority even among UCP voters. Once again, Poilievre and Smith are acting like Republicans who are responsive to their own party base than they are to the average voter.
Canada's Conservatives seem to be going all-in on defending a MAGA preacher who has brought his Christian nationalism and corny-ass music to Canada.

These politicians say it's about free speech. But that doesn't pass the sniff test.

I went to a WNBA game in Minneapolis last year to see Caitlin Clark; I came away raving about Napheesa Collier and Courtney Williams.
Napheesa Collier played the role of All-Star captain perfectly. First, she made all the right picks for her roster. Then she answered all the labor questions. And finally, she showed everyone how to stay focused on basketball.

In an interview with Vanity Fair last month, Mr. Steves said there are certain things any wannabe autocrat needs to do to overthrow a democracy, beginning with an attack on truth itself.

“You’ve got to be able to tell lies repeatedly with such confidence that people believe them,” Mr. Steves said.

For the first time, global average concentrations of carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas emitted as a byproduct of burning fossil fuels, exceeded 430 parts per million (ppm) in May. This was a record high and represented an increase of more than 3 ppm over last year. www.nbcnews.com/science/clim...
Earth's atmosphere hasn't had this much CO2 in millions of years
New data shows that CO2 levels have broken through 430 parts per million, an indication that human-caused global warming will continue to warp the environment.
