This is getting so serious that I can clearly envision schools saying to themselves in 2030, "if only we had taken action back in 2025-26." #emchat
A large number of institutions will close in the next ten years because of dwindling enrollment. We believe that decisive action, right now, can help you avoid this outcome. What should you do? These are 2 key tenets to develop and preserve institutional vibrancy:

We wrote a little something about what colleges need to do to proactively respond to one of the most challenging moments ever in higher education.

I wrote this six months ago. My crystal ball is obviously working but I'm not making predictions on the stock market. I do however know who will not win the World Series. Guess! First correct answer gets a free stock tip. 🤣🤣🤣 #emchat #international
How are you positioning international student enrollment over the next 4 years and, importantly, what is Plan B if things go south? It's (past) time to put this on campus leadership radar especially if Int students represent a significant portion on your total. Don't get caught flat-footed! #emchat

For at least 20 years, maybe more, we haven't used the term "foreign students." They are international students. I looked up "foreign." Multiple definitions, of course, but one of them is "strange and unfamiliar." Just something to keep in mind. Education media: please take note. #npr #nyt #emchat

This is a nuance that is so frequently lost by anyone outside higher ed when describing college pricing @rosehorowitch.bsky.social covers it nicely. In short, for decades, the majority of colleges have not been able to grow net tuition revenue regardless of what the sticker price may say.

So interesting to imagine the outcome without American direct involvement.

Avocado seed sprouted and now I think I know why I like gardening - it's like leading up to May 1:

- Months/years of waiting
- many things happening beneath the surface
- and then, if you're good and lucky, tada!!

Will be very interesting to see how they respond to a call/demand for massive admissions reform. Letter suggests they are currently not compliant with some element of federal law. Fascinating.
I’m told this is a real letter. It basically says, “We’ll destroy Columbia unless you destroy it first.”

If the Liberals win the next election in #Canada it will be because a) Trudeau resigned b) the party chose Carney and c) tariffs - which have unified the country and put the Conservatives in a huge bind. Canadians are now so angry there is almost no way they will elect a right wing gov't.

Really impressed with how many great things are happening in #Cleveland.

The weather though? It was a bit gray yesterday and a blustery 10 degrees. How gray? So gray that this is not a black and white photo.

Fortunately, I've had the pleasure of working for Presidents who were unwilling to delve into this practice. In some ways this is one of the worst practices we have in the admissions world. #emchat

No drones out this way. As a former Jersey guy, I'm going to accept this trade off. (Cali pizza 🍕 is usually not terrific but on balance I'm still Team West Coast).

There is a classic dilemma for budget challenged institutions who are tuition dependent. On the one hand, they must be prudent with every dollar especially if money is tight. On the other, is this really the time and place to reduce expenditures on recruitment? (My answer to follow). #emchat

My partner @rachelschreiber.bsky.social and I wrote a little something.
I've never been a fan of scare tactics but as most of you know, higher ed does not have a strong tradition of enrollment planning and for many schools, time is clearly of the essence...

You have 30 seconds (max). Can you persuade me to listen for another 3 minutes? This is the reality of in person work at a college fair or school visit when students and parents don't know your school. Have you armed your admission staff and faculty with the 30 seconds they need? #emchat #emconsult

If you've had a problem with your car for ~5 years and you cannot:
A) fix it or
B) even figure out what the problem is...but
C) you never give up

And then, it suddenly reveals itself to be something quite repairable...your day is made.

Just wondering if this is applicable to any other setting? 😎
