As we see the value of science being attacked, it is the duty of all of us to make natural history observations and share them with others. The great thing is, you don’t even have to be a scientist to do it.

Periodic reminder that bird-watching is an accessible, approachable, and calming hobby to have (there's scientific research in support of this!).

And I recommend quieting that "don't write in books" voice in your head to keep notes in at least one bird book (you can get them used for <$10!):
Birders trying to one-up each other like “oh you started birding in college? I was a birder as a kid!” as if starting time determines passion or expertise

But there is one perk to being a birder since childhood— child-me’s notes in my field guide preserved forever lol

watching and sharing it, talking about how much you enjoyed it, doing fanart, etc! stuff a lot of you have been doing already! i'm currently talking to a few studios and the numbers and comments are all tangible things i can use as leverage to show that this is something people want to see made 🌟
How can we support this project besides watching it repeatedly? Is there a kickstarter or anything? This is something we need in entertainment, especially with everything that's going on. Watching this just made my heart feel lighter.

I deleted my post from this morning after someone criticised it!

Here's my photo again for #MacroMonday of a lovely honeybee collecting pollen from the Cherry Plum flowers at the weekend. 🐝 📷 🌿

Wishing everyone a good week ahead 🕊️

It was quite chilly today but these crocuses are doing their best. I bet they'll be open tomorrow.

Are you an ornithologist suffering hardship from the 2025 US Executive Orders attacking positions, programs, and grants relevant to wild bird work?

The WOS is offering free membership and conference registration (to their June 2025 meeting in LA) for impacted folks:

I brought my binoculars with me today since the weather is nice, and there have been a lot of birds hanging around my mom's workplace so I could do some birdwatching after class that way I'm not just sitting in my mom's office the whole time.

Walked several miles and poked through countless patches of brush and swamp grasses today to find one (1) tiny Chalcoscirtus diminutus lad because I was at a new spot and knew they had to be out there because the habitat was right. He did not disappoint 🖤

Trogonoptera brookiana, Rajah Brooke’s Birdwing.

Malaysia’s national butterfly is quite a thing of beauty. Its black wings with emerald green feather-like markings, bright red head, and blue wing accents isn’t even its most remarkable feature. It’s probably the fact that it measures close to 15 cm
