Lessons learned from one specific project:

1. Always pre-register your projects. I need to understand what analyses I am running and why before I start running them.

2. Don’t work with incompetent collaborators. Say no. Everyone can make a mistake/have a bad day, but after 2 strikes just say no

I have been accepted to LxMLS (Lisbon Machine Learning School) ‘25! I went in 2016 and it was amazing, can’t wait to repeat the experience, learn about the latest ML and reconnect with people. Students, let’s connect!

Today was supposed to be my PhD defense. Due to a massive unprecedented power outage in Portugal, Spain and other parts of Europe, it got postponed. Now that I got over the initial frustration, I’m thinking about hospital operations and people trapped in elevators…

PhD defense on Monday… and my postdoc lab got me this card today 🥰. It’s almost like they really want me to get my degree and to join officially 🥹. Looking forward to sciencing together and to all the experiences to come. Thank you @laurenatlas.bsky.social and all!

After 21 years at my dream job, I’m very sad to announce my early retirement from the National Institutes of Health. My life’s work has been to scientifically study how our food environment affects what we eat, and how what we eat affects our physiology.

Likely hiring one postbac trainee for @fmri-today.bsky.social's Section on Functional Imaging Methods. Give the relatively later start time for the search, I'm not yet sure how quickly this search will happen. If you are interested, apply and reach out ASAP. fim.nimh.nih.gov

I finished the first draft of my PhD defense presentation. It’s getting real 😬

I haven’t been this excited about a delivery in a long time. In case you don’t know me, I like unicorns. Also, March is bipolar awareness month.

Let’s be realistic and honest: it is impossible to regulate my bipolar brain 9 to 5, 5 days/week, even if the brain is medicated. But: I’m good at my work and my bipolar brain means more commitment and more knowledge. Reasonable accommodation for WFH temporary approved,🍀🙏🤞 it becomes permanent.

Here’s my pledge to always insist on pre-registering projects I work on.

Hi, I got some news! Nothing is changing for now, but having a safe, secure, solid, welcoming ground under my feet feels amazing. So is the feeling of belonging. I worked very hard for this 🇵🇹🇪🇺🍾

Today is difficult with many things on my mind, but in my personal universe, the 2nd-best news is that my PhD thesis has been accepted by the uni. Defence next. The best news has nothing to do with USA politics but it’s huge and I’d been waiting for 2 years 1 month & 27 days.

Seeing proofs of a paper where I’m first author is so cool. I made you, and you’re almost all ready to be released into the big world now 🥺. Does this excitement ever subside with more published work?

Today’s Neurips scandal is 😳😳😳, but hey I miss ML conferences. I was at Neurips once in 2016 (didn’t present, I wasn’t that cool) and it was awesome. I hope I can go again sometime (now that I’ve decided to give SfN, which I usually attend, a break)

So I submitted my PhD thesis last week. I would have felt lost (as it always happens after a big milestone), but there are so many things that I’d been pushing aside giving full priority to the thesis 🤪. So happy and excited though.
