Never been much of a love poet, but here’s my attempt at writing a love poem for my love, published in the Winter 2025 issue of @sixthfinch. Thanks to Rob MacDonald for giving this piece a beautiful home.

If yr teaching meter, here are some lines from "Pink Pony Club" that are in iambs:

"I'm having wicked dreams of leaving Tennessee."

"I can't ignore the crazy visions of me in LA."

My students scanned their sonnet lines by singing them to the tune of these @chappellroanbr.bsky.social lines. Dope.

Hello, friends! I’ll be at #AWP2025 for a day. I’ll be signing books for the @sarabandebooks.bsky.social, and I’m also moderating a panel ft. some brilliant poets (see below).

Will you be there? If so, let’s hang, or at least exchange enthusiastic nods across a crowded convention center!

Been reflecting on my own pedagogy lately, and I'm reading more teaching texts. I appreciated this one by Michele Herman.

Toward a More Generous Pedagogy
I don’t remember what made me pull the fat hardcover off my poetry shelf one day not long ago. It was one I had picked up secondhand on the Upper West Side in my grad school days, with a green line…

I feel like all I ever talk about nowadays is exhaustion. It’s my whole personality, being tired.

I wrote about the Trump administration's assault on higher education & what's really going on:

"If, during the Cold War, the government funded universities as a way of strengthening America, Mr. Trump’s second administration treats them as a threat to be dismantled."
