Our new work in Environmental Microbiology on Symbiodiniaceae diversity between reef habitats and across the coral holobiont. Sediment, seawater, and turf algae-associated communities were distinct while the coral mucus and tissue showed nearly identical ITS2 type profiles.

Resolving Symbiodiniaceae Diversity Across Coral Microhabitats and Reef Niches
We characterised the Symbiodiniaceae ITS2-based diversity across a tropical coral reef to quantify the connectivity between seawater, turf algae, sediment, coral tissue and coral mucus communities. A...

It’s been a couple of months – we recently published a new paper characterizing bacterial microenvironment on black-tip reef sharks🦈 🦈 🦈 check it out in #CoralReefs:
doi.org/10.1007/s003...
... and in case you were wondering: yes, they do have #Endozoicomonas!

Increasing microplastic concentrations have nonlinear impacts on the physiology of reef-building corals
The pollution of marine environments with plastics, particularly microplastic (MP, i.e., plastic particles <5 mm), is a major threat to marine biota, …
