"An exception to many rules." What exactly does that mean? A coworker used a variation of that phrase to describe me. As a transfem non-binary person forced to reckon with being a bundle of contradictions to "the rules", I felt oddly seen even flattered. I claimed that description with pride.

You know what Predator: Badlands felt like? A pulp adventure novel. It was charmingly weird with a novel monster or environmental hazard showing up every scene. It was simple with very digestible characters and themes, and it was just plain fun. Kind of ambitious in how unambitious it really was.

Who is "the best chess player in the world"? If you're into chess you could probably come up with a few names, but chess playing engines *consistently* outperform humans. Shouldn't the operators of the engines be "the best chess players in the world"? Absurd, they don't play chess.

Saw a gaming youtuber say that Silent Hill has 5 mainline games (Silent Hill, SH2, SH3, SH4, and SHf) and no? Like they're not considered good, but Origins, Homecoming, Shattered Memories, and Downpour ARE about half the franchise, and Homecoming and Downpour were developed as main series titles

Not sure I believe that MGS Delta is the *best* case study of the advantages of black and white cinematography, but Super Bunnyhop got it 100%. Get yourself some black and white films and experiance it yourself. ESPECIALLY some classic film noir!

I, Robot (2004) does a really cute thing with its product placement. It's set in 2035, but the main character is very sceptical of newer technology so has home appliances and apparel from 2004. Almost makes you wish the movie was actually good.

Getting enamored by the idea of going smartphone free. I see what would have been my smartphone becoming a dumb phone, a Wi-Fi tablet, and a few notebooks. With those 3 things I can do everything I'd really want a smartphone for without a lot of the compulsive behavior smartphones encourage.

In Diablo my "to hit" percent is 151% I guess I hit 151 attacks out of 100, or miss only 49% of the shots I don't take.

Saw the 4k remaster of Angel's Egg my first exposure to the film. Haven't felt like this about a movie since film classes in college. Feels good being challenged. Usually I'll have a satisfying (if incomplete) understanding of a film before the credits end. I'll be chewing on this one awhile.

What do you get when you multiply *6* by *7*? 42. I have never been more convinced of the nearing completion of the program Earth was created to compute. I expect the mice will be frustrated with this answer. Hopefully, they'll see fit to leave the lights on even though we've fulfilled our purpose.

I'm rewatching Star Wars Episode 1 and... Why did we all hate this movie 20 years ago? Like it's not perfect, Jar Jar is a bit cringey, it may have been a bit too soon for cg characters, and the dialogue is a bit dopy but it works well otherwise with some of THE most impressive vfx of the late 90s

WILD that I can pull out an old CD copy of a game from 1996, put it in the DVD drive of a modern computer and just install and play it... Not *every* game is so flexible, but damn when it just works it feels *MAGICAL*

To whomever had the bright idea to add Class 1 Drillers to Descent: I don't care what sadistic DEMON posessed you to add little screaming hellbeasts to the game that can knock your health from full down to 0 in about 10 seconds but fuck them and their nightmarish shreak!

Real talk: Dungeons & Dragons Honor Among Thieves is one of the best light fantasy adventure films ever made. Right up there with The Princess Bride, Ladyhawke, and Krull. It's not as iconically funny as The Princess Bride, as beautiful as Ladyhawke, or as bizarre as Krull, but it's... Cozy and fun!

I love Yorgos Lanthimos's disquieting idiosyncratic style. He makes movies that *demand* constant interrogation. Bugonia leverages this to make you ask whose side has your sympathy: the big pharma executive and possible genocidal alien? Or the manipulative and violent conspiracy theorist kidnapper.
